Torbellino had received death threats before being ambushed at La Red restaurant in Obregón.
Obregón, Sonora, Mexico - On Thursday, Tomás Eduardo Tovar Rascón, 30, stage name "Tito Torbellino," from Phoenix, Arizona, a popular drug cartel ballad singer was killed as he was having an early afternoon dinner at La Red restaurant in Obregón. He dedicated ballads to the Sinaloa Cartel infuriating rival cartels.
Mexican authorities say, Torbellino was shot inside the restaurant. Ballistic evidence from the crime scene indicated that at least six shots were fired.
An armed group of six men arrived at the restaurant and four stayed outside to prevent anyone from going in or escaping as two suspects went inside and fatally shot Torbellino.
Torbellino had a 14-year singing career and began his career at age 26. He had three children.
