Milwaukee, WI - On Tuesday, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn and members of the Common Council unveiled their 2016 policing plan to reduce crime in the Southside and the city. According to Mayor Barrett, last year there were 69 homicides compared to 53 today, an decrease of 23% of homicides; robberies are down by 9% with 1,489 today compared to 1,642 last year; motor vehicle thefts are down by 2% with 2,860 to this date compared to 2,928 in 2015; non-fatal shootings are down by 10% from 290 to 261 and there has been a 5% of carjackings increase from 210 in 2015 to 221 today, a crime behavior that is unacceptable, according to Mayor Barrett.
Barrett says, the police deployment will expand throughout Milwaukee to make the city safe this Summer. The police plan will focus on making areas of recreation and gatherings of people safe, building trust with residents and stakeholders in the area.
Milwaukee Police Chief Flynn says, that police continue to concentrate on data where the high crime rate occurs and about 10% of neighborhoods are generating 60% of the crime and 10% of the offenders are generating 50% of the crime during the Summer.
In regarding to auto thefts, Flynn says that a local gang is involved and most of its members are known to police and have been arrested before, but continue to commit crimes. More police foot patrols will be deployed in high crime areas including bicycle police patrols so, they can be in the area quicker when a crime is reported. Also to reduce fear in people who are targeted by criminals and to create a safe environment for people to enjoy their outdoor areas instead of criminals taking over certain areas by creating fear, according to Chief Flynn.
Chief Flynn advised the public not to leave anything of value in plain sight in the vehicle or in the passenger glove compartment to avoid auto thefts or break-ins.

Customer Base Most Likely Exposed To Business Improvement Districts Toxic Lead Pipe Lateral Fresh Water

The City of Milwaukee is facing pressure by FLAC, local residents and a growing concern by area business owners after learning that lead toxic pipes laterals are still used for freshwater flow into their businesses.

Milwaukee, WI - Hispanic News Network U.S.A. (HNNUSA) learned that Southside residents, businesses, restaurants, neighborhood bars and nightclubs located in Business Improvement Districts continue to use federally banned toxic lead pipe laterals for freshwater flow into homes and businesses for decades. Unknowingly most customers that patronize these Southside businesses could be exposed with levels of lead poisoning that could be harmful to health. The City of Milwaukee doesn't regularly check for toxic levels of lead, not even on a monthly basis or conducts constant monitoring to determine, if lead is actually mixing with the freshwater flow. These toxic lead pipe laterals should all be removed as soon as possible to eliminate the potential of long term lead poisoning.
Last week, the Freshwater for Life Action Coalition (FLAC) called for the City of Milwaukee and Mayor Tom Barret to begin the removal process of all toxic lead pipe laterals within the city limits. Southside 12th District Alderman José G. Pérez including fellow aldermen haven't scheduled any informational forums to discuss the removal of such toxic lead pipe laterals from homes and local businesses.
Robert Miranda, the spokesman for FLAC released the following statement,  "Alderman José Pérez has yet to make a statement on this very important issue. He hasn't called for removing these lead pipe hazards and he hasn't sent any message from his office urging caution to residents on 13th street about the water. Lead is a very dangerous toxin to children. Perez being silent on this matter is a disservice to his constituents."
According to Miranda, city bureaucrats are recommending for residents to use water filters as a band-aid solution to reduce contaminants, but the Environmental Protection Agency doesn't test filters to check, if it reduces toxic lead in water. The actual solution is to remove the toxic lead pipe laterals from homes.
Unfortunately, residents pay for safe city freshwater to flow into their homes, but the delivery process is through a federally banned toxic lead pipe lateral.
In March, State Representative Lena Taylor (D-Milw.) in a press release reported, lead is extremely toxic and affects the liver, kidneys, reproductive system and nervous system. Lead’s most dangerous impact is on the brain and can cause serious development problems. It’s been linked to everything from violent crime to low IQ.
Wisconsin Public Television did a great story on the lead issue in which they revealed 4,000 Wisconsin Children tested positive for elevated lead in their blood. 60% of those kids live in Milwaukee. In fact, 8.6% of our kids tested positive for dangerous lead levels compared to 4.9% of Flint Michigan kids. In Flint, Michigan, kids had so much lead in their system that the Mayor declared a state of emergency. Where’s our state of emergency? Where’s our lead poisoning abatement plan?
Is Milwaukee too cheap to save money (and likely save lives) in the long run? The City of Milwaukee estimates it will cost between $511 and $756 million to replace the lead laterals like Madison did. The city currently spends $393,000 per year to add ortho-phosphoric acid to lake water to treat it before we run it through lead pipes in order to keep the lead from seeping into our water. But given our kids’ lead levels, that doesn’t seem to be our best solution.
HNNUSA with Miranda's cooperation have provided Business Improvement District corridors in the Southside including some residential addresses of the 70,000 homes that have toxic lead pipe laterals, which data from the Milwaukee Department of Public Works and Milwaukee Water Works has released. A City of Milwaukee map showing properties with lead service line from water main to crub stop includes most Milwaukee aldermanic districts except two that have toxic lead pipe laterals today.

Editor's note: With Summerfest opening on Wednesday, thousands of festivalgoers will be visiting the City of Festivals venue now that more than 100 outdoor festivals will take place during the Summer and many will visit area bars, nightclubs and restaurants, will they be exposed to the freshwater that flows through toxic lead pipe laterals? Mostly likely the chances are that they will and those who drink water from outdoor bubblers and cold water fountains will be exposed to freshwater delivered by toxic lead pipe laterals as well.
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel also reported, that to replace 70,000 lead pipe laterals, it will cost the city between $511M to $756M and will take from 5 to 7 years, if the city gets federal funding. So far, the city received a $1M loan from the state to replace at least 385 lead pipe laterals at day-care centers as a priority. No public schools get freshwater flow from lead pipe laterals, according to city officials.
Worth mentioning, Robert Miranda from FLAC told HNNUSA that a new study released in April 2016 claims to have found a link between the high murder rates and the use of lead water pipes in U.S. cities. Scientists at Harvard University and the University of California, Berkeley analysed homicide rates and the cities' use of lead pipes to distribute drinking water.
Although the use of lead pipes was halted in the United States in 1986, many cities in the US, including Milwaukee, still have lead pipes in operation distributing water to homes.
The study was published by James J. Feigenbaum of Harvard University and Christopher Muller of the University of California, Berkeley in the journal Explorations in Economic History. It says that on average "cities that used lead water pipes had homicide rates that were twenty-four per cent higher than cities that did not."
Previous studies have said that the use of lead can lead to lower IQs amongst children and higher rates of violent crime after people were exposed to lead in air pollution. The report added that the acidity levels in the water can also change how much lead is dissolved in it — and how much is ingested.
The study says: "Even if lead removal will not reduce crime, it will remove a dangerous toxin from the environment. Other strategies to reduce crime may not have similarly positive side effects.
The study says, "We found evidence broadly consistent with the prediction that more lead will leach into more acidic water and increase the homicide rates of cities with low-pH water and lead service pipes."
The Huffington Post reports that “Feigenbaum and Muller compiled historical information on pipe materials in 545 cities from 1921 to 1936, and after controlling for a variety of demographic factors, found that “cities that used lead pipes had between 14 and 36 percent higher homicide rates than cities that did not.”

Wauwatosa Cop Fatally Shot Man In Madison Park, Both Are Afro-Americans

Wauwatosa cop might have turned his body camera on before fatally shooting a 25-year-old man inside his vehicle who had a handgun.

Wauwatosa, WI - The family of Jay Anderson, 25, are mourning his death after a Wauwatosa police officer shot him while inside his vehicle. Both the Wauwatosa police officer and Anderson are Afro-Americans, according to the investigation by the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD).
Hispanic News Network U.S.A. (HNNUSA) has learned that a Wauwatosa police officer spotted Anderson on June 23 alone at the Madison Park and when he approached the suspicious vehicle to investigate as a routine check, the officer noticed Anderson had a handgun inside the vehicle. The officer attempted to turn his body camera on as he managed to fire multiple shots at Anderson who later died at the scene.
MPD is reviewing possible video footage from the Wauwatosa officer body camera, if in fact he was able to turn the body camera on before he fired at Anderson. Earlier preliminary reports indicated that the officer saw Anderson with a gun inside his car and he fired at Anderson for fear of his life.
No information has been released by MPD to confirm whether Anderson had actually pointed a handgun at the Wauwatosa officer, but an inside source from the Wauwatosa Police Department indicated, video footage of the deadly incident could have been recorded by the officer involved. The video would definitely determine, if Anderson actually had threaten, was reaching or pointed the handgun at the officer moments before he was killed. The officer was not injured and no confirmation has been released, if Anderson did fired his handgun.
The Wauwatosa Police Department has at least three Afro-American police officers.

Milwaukee Lead Pipe Lateral Scandal Ignites Campaign For City To Remove Toxic Hazard From Homes

The City of Milwaukee, Common Council and Mayor Tom Barrett are facing the biggest scandal to hit City Hall in decades, the lead pipe toxic laterals being used in at least 70,000 area homes.

June 27, 2016

Milwaukee, WI - Today, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and the Milwaukee Common Council are facing the biggest lead pipe laterals toxic poisoning scandal to hit City Hall in decades. At least 70,000 homes in the City of Milwaukee still have the federal banned lead pipe toxic laterals connected to homes allowing fresh water to flow into homes for bathing, washing and drinking.
Last week, the Freshwater for Life Action Coalition (FLAC) called for Mayor Barrett to suspend all street and sidewalk construction in areas where 70,000 homes with lead pipe laterals are still being used for fresh water flow into residential areas. FLAC requested that city officials test those areas with lead pipe laterals where construction is taking place to see, if a protective phosphorus compound introduced into the water flow to serve as a protective cover to prevent lead from getting into the fresh water flow is still intact and has not been loosen causing a health lead toxic hazard. It seems that the City hasn't been complying and residents in street construction zones have not been notified before repairs began. Water flow into most homes in the street construction zones hasn't been tested in a weekly basis to determine how much lead is contaminating the drinking residential water.
In the Southside of Milwaukee, Alderman José G. Pérez hasn't even informed the residents along S. 13 Street between W. Rogers and W. Becher Streets of the potential lead pipe hazards and possible lead poisoning of the water. Alderman Pérez including fellow aldermen haven't even decided to schedule public forums in aldermanic districts to inform their residents of the lead toxic lateral pipes connected to the area homes.
The lead pipe toxic laterals should be replaced as soon as possible and taxpayers should contact City Hall and let their aldermen to provide funding to begin to remove the lead toxic pipes from homes. Will the City of Milwaukee continue to cover up the lead pipe toxic lateral scandal, its practice to stall the removal of toxic pipes and to allowed to poison Taxpayers? Taxpayers should demand for the City to replace the toxic lead pipe laterals as soon as possible.

Milwaukee's Carromatic Sold Alleged Lemon Vehicle For Twice Its Blue Book Value Plus Interest Credit Rate At 24.99%

24-year-old woman has alleged, that she was sold a lemon costing her more than $26,000 with a credit finance contract interest at 24.99%, but the Blue book car prices only valued the vehicle for $5,000.

June 25, 2016

Milwaukee, WI - On Friday, a 24-year-old woman confirmed that she will do everything possible to get her $2,000 cash down for a Ford Focus 2012, which turned out to a very expensive lemon vehicle to own. She contacted Hispanic News Network U.S.A. (HNNUSA) to publicly expose the bad service that she received at Carromatic, 5801 S. 27th Street in Milwaukee, an auto sales business out of Chicago (Car Outlet) that is known to sell vehicles for more than three to four times their worth value due to a high interest rate alone and low income customers and undocumented immigrants who can't easily get a car finance by a bank or another financial institution fall victim to this type of high interest financial entities.
The woman returned the vehicle several weeks after she had it for several months and the transmission gave out. She made two $414.00 monthly payments on the finance contract that was approved by Total Finance an affiliate to Carromatic.
HNNUSA contacted Nery Valladares, the Sales Manager at Carromatic who confirmed that in fact the woman had returned the vehicle several weeks ago. She was offered a replacement vehicle or get the vehicle fixed, but she wanted a more expensive vehicle, which Valladares says, it couldn't be done because it cost more.
The woman says, she returned the vehicle and after she couldn't resolve her lemon dilemma, she decided that she didn't want the lemon anymore and wanted a refund of her cash down payment of $2,000 and to terminate the $26,047.96 financial contract, since she returned the vehicle before the time expired to do so.
According to Valladares, Total Finance and Carromatic have not made a determination on the lemon vehicle and her financial contract. Here's the breakdown of the vehicle's actual value and how much Carromatic and Total Finance will profit from the credit contract to finance the Ford Focus. Carromatic sold the lemon Ford Focus 2012 with more than 124,000 miles for more than $10,000 with an credit interest rate at 24.99% totalling $26,047.96 after 58 car payments, the Blue book value of the vehicle is only $5,000 and what is also questionable, whoever filled out the Total Finance contract at Carromatic, they didn't add no insurance coverage for the buyer and allowed her to actually drive out of the Carromatic auto sales lot...Ouch!
The 24-year-old woman was sure taken for a ride and she now wants to prevent the same lemon mishap from happening to someone else. She did confirm, that she will seek legal action as well.
HNNUSA did provide several days for Carromatic to solve the Ford Focus lemon dilemma with the buyer, but it hasn't yet made any decision to do so.

Open Carry Citizens Spotted At War Zone Neighborhood In The Northside

Milwaukee Police Chief Flynn doesn't know, if Noerthside neighborhood citizens around N. 23 St. and W. Locust St. are exercising their right to open carry in the area.

Milwaukee, WI - On Friday, Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Fynn fold Hispanic News Network U.S.A. (HNNUSA) during a roll call at the 2700 block of W. Center St. that he didn't know if local neighborhood citizens have resorted to open carry assault type weapons in the neighborhood for self-defense. HNNUSA received information that male Afro-American citizens have been seen and approached by police after being spotted with assault type weapons in public on what is known as "Open Carry" in Wisconsin. Apparently, police can't even question the open carry citizens and confirm, if any are actually felons under state law, according to a commanding police supervisor. Police officers patrolling the area, which to a neighborhood citizen in the vicinity who didn't want to be identified called the area a "War Zone," he says the young males do open carry in that area. HNNUSA went to N. 23 St. and W. Locust St. to check out open carry citizens, but was unsuccessful in locating those believed to be open carrying in public. In Wisconsin, citizens can legally open carry loaded weapons, according to the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
HNNUSA learned that police officers assigned to the area don't get assigned assault rifles as a routine and most officers are White. Chief Flynn was at the location holding a press conference to introduce a new member of the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD), a K9 named Nando, a two year German Shepherd. Funding for Nando was provided by Stan Kass, owner of Skylark Automatic Vending who has bought 29 K9s for area law enforcement agencies, according to MPD.

The crowds broke the palace front doors and municipal police from inside attempted to repell the protesters with pepper gas. Legislators from the PRI political party are deemed to be corrupt and a movement has been sparked by a major teacher's strike against the privatization of the education system and medical services. Teachers and supporters have been protesting since about a week and the doctors including nurses in multiple states have joined in the protest on Wednesday against the corrupt PRI controlling federal legislative body and Mexican Enrique Peña Nieto's education and medical reforms deemed to oppress teachers, doctors and nurses.
So far, teachers, doctors, nurses and workers from the states of Oaxaca, Chiapas, Michoacan, Chihuahua, Guerrero and Iztacalco, one of six delegations of Mexico's Federal District continue protests and mega marches throughout the states. Thousands of people in Monterrey, Nuevo León; Teziutlan, Puebla; Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco; Ciudad Juárez; Zacatecas; San Luis Potosi; Tamaulipas; Durango; Mazatlán, Sinaloa; Saltillo, Coahuila and Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz have joined the striking teachers and doctors national movement against EPN.
EPN's government have frozen the bank accounts of the teacher's syndicates (Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación (CNTE), the National Coordinating Syndicate of Workers in Education), which CNTE began to collect dues in cash to fund the movement against EPN.
Yesterday, the PRI legislators in Quintana Roo approved state Constitutional reforms that allows outgoing PRI Governor Roberto Borge Angulo's appointed supporters to remain in office for 9 years after his term expires at the end of the year. Each appointee will earn between $80,000 pesos ($4.4K U.S.) to $100,000 pesos ($5.5K U.S.) and no accountability, deficit audit or criminal investigations will proceed to account for the more than $22 mil millones de pesos ($1.2B U.S.) state budget deficit of misappropriated pesos while Borge Angulo was in office.
Protests are being organized as well in Quintana Roo against the PRI corrupt legislators and Governor Borge Angulo.
At least 11 people have been reported killed in protests by the Mexican Federal Police who fired upon unarmed teachers, hundreds have been arrested and more than 45 people have been injured. The dead and injured toll is expected to rise as protests continue against EPN's corrupt and oppressive educational and medical reforms.

Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico - On Tuesday, Michoacan Tres Punto Zero reported that more than 10,000 people marched in Morelia in solidarity with the Oaxaca and Chiapas striking teachers who oppose Mexico's President Enrique Peña Nieto's (EPN) oppressive educational reforms. The following communities participated in the 10,000 march on Tuesday in support of the Oaxaca and Chiapas teachers strike, Nahuatzen, Paracho, Sevina, Comachuén, Pichátaro, Zirahuen, Santa Fe de la Laguna, Uricho, Cuanajo, Tirindaro, Zopoco, Ichan, San Felipe de los Herreros, Capacuaro, Apo del Rosario, Caltzontzin, Sicuicho, Caltzontzin, San Angel Zurumucapio, Pamatacuaro, Cherato, Cheratillo, Oruscato, 18 de marzo, Comunidades del Sur and Nuevo Zirosto.
Zacatecas and Michoacan have joined Oaxaca and Chiapas striking teachers movement.
At least 12 people including teachers were killed, 45 injured and more than 100 arrested in Nochixtlán, Oaxaca on Sunday after Federal Police gunfired upon protesters, according to social media reports.
More protests including marches will continue and a national strike in 31 Mexican states has been called by the striking teacher's syndicates (Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación (CNTE), the National Coordinating Syndicate of Workers in Education) in Mexico condemning EPN's educational oppressive reforms.
A major strike is planned by doctors and other service providers in protest against the EPN reforms joining teachers in a strike nationally. Both groups say, that federal PRI legislators failed to inform and include a process of dialogue with them before approving the reforms affecting the medical industry and educational system. Some doctors will work under protest, some will stop working and others will march.
But in the long run, the longer the strike is prolonged, it will affect medical treatment for many patients.

Puerto Rico's Popular Democratic Party Seeks Independence At United Nations

The $72 billion economic crisis in Puerto Rico has awaken several political parties to begin working in a united effort to seek independence from the U.S. failure to bail them out.

By H. Nelson Goodson
Hispanic News Network U.S.A.

June 17, 2016

New York, New York - On Friday, Carmen Yulín Cruz Soto, the Mayor of San Juan in Puerto Rico along with Marco Antonio Rigau, the President of San Juan Municipality and Carlos Ávila Pacheco, the Vice-president of the San Municipality will present their petition for independence from the United States of America at the United Nations. The petition for independence would request decolonization from the U.S. as the initial first step and then would be recognized as the Associated Republic of Puerto Rico allowing the people of Puerto Rico to decide on what the United Nations accepts for recognizing Puerto Rico's independence. Soto and the petitioners for Puerto Rico's independence are members of the Popular Democratic Party and will most likely joined the Puerto Rico Independence Political Party in seeking independence from U.S. control. Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives approved by a vote of 297-127, the Puerto Rico Oversight, Management and Economically Stability Act (PROMESA), which creates a federal financial control board with no oversight and accountability by Congress itself. The bill now goes before the U.S. Senate for approval. President Barack H. Obama wants the U.S. Senate to approve the PROMESA Act as soon as possible.  The bill helps to protect the 3.5 million Americans living in Puerto Rico from further reductions in critical public services while giving Puerto Rico the tools it needs to restructure its debt, according to Obama.
The Senate should act expeditiously to review and vote on this measure, so the President can sign the bill into law ahead of the critical July 1st debt payment deadline.
PR has until July 1 to make a $1.9 billion debt payment to the U.S. government. PR has a 45% poverty rate, high unemployment rate and schools around the island will begin closing due to the debt crisis. PR can't file for Chapter 9 bankruptcy under a U.S. colony status.
Puerto Rico's elected officials, the governor including local and municipal governments oppose the PROMESA Act because it creates a JUNTA of seven members to work with corporations that Puerto Rico is in debt with and the Puerto Rican officials have no authority to challenge any financial decision made by the JUNTA.
On Saturday, June 25, citizens from Puerto Rico will hold a mass gathering and rally against the PROMESA Act of JUNTA at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
In November 2012, Puerto Rico in a two part non binding referendum asking if voters wanted change or status quo, 54% of Puerto Rican voted for change while 46% wanted to remain as status quo. About 61% of Puerto Ricans voted for statehood, while 33% voted for a Sovereign free association and 5% voted for independence.
The U.S. Congress would have to approve statehood for Puerto Rico making it the 51st state, but has not acted.
Congress in the past gave $700 billion to Wall Street for an economic bailout, but won't approve a $72 billion bailout for Puerto Rico.
Puerto Rico is going through an economic crisis and virtually most of its education and medical institutions are facing closures or have been shut down, Puerto Rican Police are not getting paid and the government has a huge debt.

Update: On Monday, June 20, the UN Committee for Decolonization approved a resolution for Puerto Rico's right for independence or decolonization presented by Humbert Rivera Rosario, the Ambassador from Cuba and co-sponsors, Bolivia, Edcuador, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Syria and Russia.
The Puerto Rico UN Decolonization resolution will go before the United Nations Organization General Assembly for approval.

FLAC Wants Milwaukee Mayor Barrett To Replace 70K Home Lead Toxic Pipe Laterals

Milwaukee Mayor Barrett facing controversial hazard dilemma over toxic lead pipe laterals affecting 70,000 homes and a local coalition wants those lead pipe laterals removed as soon as possible.

By H. Nelson Goodson
Hispanic News Network U.S.A.

June 16, 2016

Milwaukee, WI - On Thursday, the Freshwater for Life Action Coalition (FLAC) called on City of Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett to suspend all street and sidewalk construction in areas where 70,000 homes with lead pipe laterals are still being used for fresh water flow into residential areas. FLAC request that city officials test those areas with lead pipe laterals where construction is taking place to see, if a protective phosphorus compound introduced into the water flow to serve as a protective cover to prevent lead from getting into the fresh water flow is still intact and has not been loosen causing a health lead toxic hazard.
During a press conference on Thursday, FLAC released the following news release, that in January 2016, before the Guardian released its report citing over 30 cities, including Milwaukee, were identified as water testing "cheats" for lead in water FLAC members questioned Superintendent Carrie Lewis' statement at the January 2016 Rules and Steering committee meeting in which she gave a power point presentation indicating her department used "end of line" water testing method for lead in our water. During this same presentation the superintendent of Milwaukee Water Works (MWW) told members of the committee that residents were instructed to flush out their pipes before taking samples of water to test for lead. FLAC members have stated publicly for weeks before the Guardian article was released that "end of line", "pre-flushing" or "pre-stagnation" method of testing is unacceptable.
Running water to test for lead is not a mandated method of testing water for lead by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA guidelines were suggestive methods of testing, according to EPA officials from Region 5 Office in Chicago, which serves Wisconsin.
For over twenty years Milwaukee has added a phosphorous compound to its drinking water. The compound coats pipes to control lead corrosion, but recent concerns regarding heavy construction around the city has brought to light that this protective phosphorous compound is being loosened by the pounding of machines breaking apart sidewalks and streets in which many of these toxic lead pipes are located.
We call on the Mayor of Milwaukee to suspend construction in the city where lead laterals are concentrated, and to send city engineers to inspect if in fact the vibrations from the construction work taking place are loosening the phosphorous compound from the inner lining of these hazardous lead pipes.
We also seek from the mayor a directive ordering MWW to go to the neighborhoods impacted by the street and sidewalk construction work and test the drinking water for lead spiking caused by the heavy construction in their neighborhood.
In light of the recent Guardian report, FLAC is calling upon the Mayor of Milwaukee to test the water of homes identified as having lead lateral pipes by using "front draw" method of testing.  This method of water testing takes samples from the faucet as soon as the water pours after sitting in the lead pipes for 6 hours or more.
In February 2016 the EPA released new recommendations for testing lead in our drinking water. By following the new recommended Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Guidelines regarding lead water testing the city will be undertaking a proactive approach to ensure the safety of our drinking water.
The results of the water sampling and engineering assessment should be made public immediately upon return.
In addition, FLAC calls upon Mayor Barrett to initiate a comprehensive strategic removal and funding plan designed to remove these 70,000 lead pipes over using a progressive time schedule to get it done.
The City of Milwaukee cannot be considered the "Freshwater Capitol of the World" or the "Fresh Coast City", if they will not provide lead-free drinking water to the people that live in its own backyard.

City of Milwaukee Facing Controversy Over Lead Lateral Service Pipe Hazard

Lead lateral service pipes in 70,000 homes deemed a potential hazard to the health of children and adults, if not replaced by City.

By H. Nelson Goodson
Hispanic News Network U.S.A.

June 15, 2016

Milwaukee, WI - The Freshwater for Life Action Coalition (FLAC) announced it will hold a press conference tomorrow, June 16th, at the Wisconsin African American Women's Center located at 3020 W. Vliet Street at 12:00 p.m.
According to a press release, the Milwaukee - FLAC will be issuing a statement regarding the status of the City of Milwaukee lead lateral service pipe hazard.
The coalition was created earlier this year to address the hazard of lead which threatens the health of Milwaukee families' drinking water.
Members of this coalition have been at the forefront of the lead lateral service pipe dilemma in the City of Milwaukee since the announcement of over 70,000 homes with lead lateral service pipes was publicized.
"Testing the water and blood lead levels is only the tip of the iceberg. Our coalition over the past few months has been on a fact finding effort we shared with other groups and now we will share with the public", said Robert Miranda, FLAC spokesperson.
Currently, street and sidewalk construction is taking place in Milwaukee's Southside and residents along South 13th Street between W. Rogers and W. Becher have not been notified of the potential hazard and the City hasn't tested the water for lead levels during the construction, according to Miranda. The hazardous toxic lead pipes can spike dangerous levels of lead when construction and vibration loosens spikes of lead in the water flow to homes.
Recently, the Riverside neighborhood underwent street and sidewalk construction and residents weren't warned by the City or their alderman about the potential water lead spikes during vibration and their water wasn't tested for potential dangerous lead levels as well.

Grieving Milwaukee Parents Collecting Donations Using Internet Fetus Photos To Claim It's Their Child

Several Milwaukee Southside residents are questioning the use of internet fetus photos that were used by a couple and their daughter who claimed the child has died.

By H. Nelson Goodson
Hispanic News Network U.S.A.

June 15, 2016

Milwaukee, WI - On Tuesday, several Milwaukee Southside residents are having doubts about a 9-month pregnancy that a couple claimed to be enjoying until the child apparently died recently due to an accident. In the parents separate Facebook (FB) accounts, it showed them at a baby shower event in May where the alleged expectant mother along with her husband posed with photos of the baby gifts and a poster of the baby called "Pepito".
The Southside residents became suspicious about the claim of the pregnancy when the photos used in FB by the family, Jessica Perla Ruby Camacho Rodriguez and Pepe José Rodriguez claiming to be having a child actually turned out to be copies from Internet photos found on tineye dot com. The Rodriguez family was contacted on Tuesday, Balmares Kuka, the daughter responded by saying she doesn't have to say anything and none could explain where the baby photos including one where a baby is in an incubator originated from letting to believe what the Rodriguez family are claiming, is in question today. Pepe José claimed, that they have not asked for any donations, when asked about the photos of the fetus used, he did not respond. Jessica Perla commented via FB, that Rodriguez was not her real name on FB and she failed to confirm whether the photos of the fetus was her actual baby. She also indicated that no donations were collected. Why would they use Internet fetus photos to claim it's their child and a baby in an incubator that died?
Allegations have been raised by some Southside residents that the Rodriguez's have been asking for donations at a local bar La Carreta Vieja located at the 1300 block of W. Greenfield Ave. The amount of donations collected has not been determined.
Milwaukee police have been contacted about the alleged claim by the Rodriguez family and when the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office was contacted on Tuesday, it was confirmed that they have no information about any death reported of a child belonging to the Rodriguez family as of yet.
The extended Rodriguez family members and friends are grieving the alleged loss of a child to both Jessica and Pepe José. Has a child actually died, if so then why are Internet photos being used instead to claim that it is the deceased child? The Rodriguez family hasn't been able to explain the photos used of a child on their FB accounts at the moment.

Milwaukee, WI - On Sunday, the annual Milwaukee PrideFest Parade drew thousands of people along the route. The parade began at 2:00 p.m. and proceeded along S. 2nd Street in Milwaukee's Southside Walker's Point neighborhood.
The annual parade coincides with the three day PrideFest at the Summerfest grounds (Henry Mier Festival Grounds) at the lakefront. The PrideFest festival ends on Sunday.
State Representative JoCasta Zamarripa, 39, (Dem. - Milw. 8th Assembly District) who is running for reelection participated in the parade. Zamarripa and members of the Wisconsin Democratic Party LGBT Caucus including Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, Milwaukee County District Attorney John T. Chisholm, State Senator Tim Carpenter and others participated in the parade this year.
PrideFest on Sunday placed metal detectors for added security measures and in wake of the massacre at the Pulse gay nightclub on Orlando. The dead toll has reached 49 people who were killed and more than 52 people were wounded by a lone gunman, Omar Mir Seddique Mateen, 29. The dead toll is expected to rise.
Mateen apparently shot his way into the Pulse nightclub around 2:00 a.m. injuring a security guard. Mateen took hostages, but was fatally just after 5:00 a.m. during a gunbattle with a nine man SWAT Team. Mateen apparently called 911 about 20 minutes into the shooting rampage and told the operator that he was pledging allegiance to ISIS, according to police.
Mateen was outed by friends that he was gay as well and frequent the Pulse nightclub before the deadly attack and used a gay dating app too.
The LGBT community in the U.S. is in mourning and President Barack H. Obama condemned the massacre and order for the U.S. flag to be lowered to half-mast.
Wisconsin State Representative Josh Zepnick released the following statement, "My heart goes out to the families of loved ones hurt by the tragic murder in Florida and prayers of support and solidarity for those who daily feel the fear and threats of anti-LGBT hate in our society.  America is not free unless you can be safe when doing safe things, like enjoying a night club or sitting on your porch or going to a movie.  There's several narratives that need to be addressed by our political system:  the links to radical Jihadism, the free flowing of gun weapons, and the sick rationalizations coming from American homophobics dressed up in Christianity who justify this violence.  But for now, we need to mourn the tragic loss of human lives, and commit ourselves to get rid of violence in our culture one day a time."
