Cruz one of five reported killed on Friday during a confrontation, including one Mexican soldier in Reynosa.

Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico - On Monday, Mexican military in a confrontation with suspected members of the Zeta Cartel resulted in the death of Galindo Mellado Cruz, 41, aka, "Z-9" and three other Zeta members and one Mexican soldier, according to Monte Alejandro Rubido, head of the Mexican National Security Commission. Cruz was killed at a residence in La Fuente neighborhood.
Cruz had called for back up and several vehicles with members of the Zetas tried to rescue their leader, but failed.
Cruz was wanted for multiple homicide charges, drug trafficking, kidnapping, extortion and using weapons reserved for the military. He was identified by fingerprints and facial recognition techniques, according to Rubino.
On Saturday, Ricardo Flores López alias Pedro Luis Hernández Campos was also taken into custody. Lopéz was the right hand man for Cruz and controlled the Zeta operations in the municipality of Miguel Aléman.
