Washington, D.C. - On Tuesday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) reported that a month long joint Operation Cross Check in the Midwest arrested 297 illegal aliens in six states. The suspects were taken into custody in the following states, Illinois, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Kansas, Iowa and Missouri. ICE/ERO confirmed, that of the 297 arrested, 233 were criminal illegal aliens, 56 immigration fugitives and 81 re-entry deportees, including 287 men, 10 women from 29 countries.
ICE/ERO officers made 59 arrests in the Chicago area during the operation. The majority of those arrested, or 53, were convicted criminals. Eleven were immigration fugitives and 24 were previously deported from the United States. The 55 men and four women are from the following countries: Mexico (50), Poland (3), former Yugoslavia (2) and one each from Honduras, Moldova, Ecuador and Venezuela.
In Milwaukee, 49 men were arrested, of those, 44 are considered criminals, seven were fugitives and 8 were re-entry deportees, who are facing prosecution. 41 illegal aliens are from Mexico, 3 from Laos, 2 from Nicaragua, one each from Romania, Dominican Republic and Costa Rica.
