Bloomington, MN - A press release from the Bloomington Police Department reported that at 10:17 a.m. on Friday, the Bloomington Police responded to the South East Court at Mall of America on a report of a child falling from the third floor. While responding, officers received additional information that indicated the child may have been pushed or thrown from the third floor.
Officers and witnesses located an injured 5-year-old child (identified as Landen) on the first floor. The child was treated at the scene and then transported by ambulance to the Children's Hospital in Minneapolis with life threatening injuries.
Officers were directed by witnesses to a suspect who was seen running from the area immediately after the incident. The suspect identified as Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda, 24, was taken into custody in the transit station at the Mall of America (MOA) and is currently being held at the Bloomington Police Department. At this time the suspect does not appear to be known to the victim or to the victim's family. Aranda is from the metro Twin Cities area.
Police believe this an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public. Bloomington Police, Hennepin County Sheriffs Crime Lab, and the Metro Transit Police continue to investigate this case.
Aranda has had prior incidents at the MOA, in July 2015, he threw stuff from the upper railing of the MOA to the lower floor and was prohibited from going to the mall. Three months later, Aranda was caught throwing a glass over the MOA railing at a woman in a restaurant.
