Milwaukee - Multiple police investigators responded to a call that a Hispanic woman was physically attacked at the South Divison High School, 1500 block of W. Lapham polling place for wards 229, 231 and 232 by a poll worker. The poll worker identified himself as Ruben Burgos and told Maria Hernández, 25, a Latina to leave, which resulted with an allegation that he grabbed her and pushed Hernández twice. Burgos was identified as Lieutenant of Detectives for the Milwaukee Police Department who is working as a poll worker official on Tuesday. He would not comment or confirmed that he shoved Hernández in the incident.
Hernández said, Burgos told her that he could do what ever he pleased. She was at the polling place helping another person when the incident occurred.
Police recovered a video surveillance tape from the scene. Hernández says, she will seek charges against detective Burgos. Burgos was wearing a Latino Peace Officers Association T-shirt while working at the polling place.
Hernández is a James "Jim" N. Witkowiak supporter and apparently Burgos is a José G. Pérez supporter, according to allegations. Burgos has not confirmed, if he is supporting Pérez. Pérez campaign website doesn't show LPOA as an endorsement.
The incident occurred around noon and police investigators remained at the scene. No information was released, if federal personnel from the U.S. Department of Jusctice responded to the scene.
