El Monte Police Officer Joseph Santana And His Partner Succumbed To Gunshot Injuries, Also Suspect Justin William Flores Deceased

Flores was fatally shot in the parking lot by other cops after shooting El Monte Police Officer Santana and his partner at a motel room.

El Monte, California - On Tuesday, El Monte Police Officer Joseph Santana, 31, and his unidentified partner were shot when responding to a call of a stabbing incident at the Siesta Inn, at the 10300 block of Garvey Ave. in El Monte, California. 

According to preliminary reports, the deceased suspect, Justin William Flores, 35, was having an altercation with his separated wife around 4:30p.m. at the Siesta Inn motel room when the officers arrived and knocked at the door.

Flores and officers exchanged gunfire in the room where Flores and his wife were in. Flores' wife was not injured.

Flores was able to flee from the room with a handgun and was confronted by other officers outside the motel in the parking lot where he was fatally shot. Flores died at the scene. A handgun was recovered by Flores' body.

Officer Santana and his partner were transported to the LA County-USC Medical Center where they both succumbed to their injuries on Tuesday night.
