Milwaukee, WI - On Tuesday, Earnell Lucas was elected as the Democratic nominee for Milwaukee County Sheriff in Milwaukee. Lucas will replace Acting Milwaukee County Sheriff Richard Schmidt in January.
Also, Marisabel Cabrera was elected as the Democratic nominee for the Wisconsin State Assembly 9th District. Cabrera is the Chairperson of the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission. Cabrera will replace incumbent Josh Zepnick (D) in the State Assembly.
Cabrera will be the second openly LGBTQ community Democrat member in the State Assembly and the first woman Democrat of Puerto Rican descent in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Democrat JoCasta Zamarripa from the State Assembly 8th District is of Mexican descent. Zamarripa is also a member of the LGBTQ community.

In other races:

• Tony Evers (D) will challenge incumbent Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker (R) in the November elections.

• Mandela Barnes was elected as the Democratic nominee Lt. Governor.

• Doug La Follette was elected the Democratic nominee for Secretary of State and will face Republican challenger Jay Schroeder in the November elections.

• Sarah Godlewski was elected the Democratic nominee for Wisconsin State Treasurer and will face Republican challenger Travis Hartwigg in the November elections.

Editor's note: In the Wisconsin Partisan Election result totals for the two major political parties indicate that the Democrats out voted the Republicans in the governor race. Totals combine in the Democratic choice for governor showed that 537,840 voted in the Primary Election compared to 456,007 votes cast by Republicans in the governor's Primary race. If the Democratic election momentum continues to bring out the vote for November 2018, Democrats could take the governorship by electing Evers and ousting Republican Governor Walker.
In the Wisconsin State legislature, the Republicans continue to be in controlled making Democrat legislators in both the State Assembly and Senate as lame ducks due the the Gerrymandering districts that were created giving Republicans the advantage to get elected.
Milwaukee County remains a Democratic stronghold.
