Jachson Township, Ohio - The body of Ashley Zhao, 5, was discovered by police hidden at the Ang's Asian Cuisine restaurant, 4924 Portage St., NW and the investigation is being handled as a homicide case, according to police. The Jackson Township Police Department (JTPD) reported that the parents, Ming Ming Chen and Liang J. Zhao were both taken into custody and charged on Wednesday for the murder of their daughther Zhao. Chen was charged with one felony count for murder and one felony count for assault and Liang was charged with two felony counts for complicity to murder and complicity assault. A $5M cash bail each was set for Chen and Liang.
The parents reported Zhao missing on Monday night around 9:02 p.m. and police began to search for the child. Police used K-9 dogs in the search and the body of Zhao was found on Tuesday night hidden inside the Ang's restaurant. Both Chen and Liang were taken into custody and booked on homicide charges.
Chen apparently struck Zhao sveral times in the head with her right fist and the girl died from her injuries. Liang hid Zhao's body inside the restaurant and then called police to report that the child had disappeared or wondered away from the restaurant.
Multiple law enforcement agencies including the Stark County Sheriff's Office, Canton Police Department, Canal Fulton Police Department, Canton SWAT Cooperative, Ohio BCI, Jackson Township Fire Department, Canal Fulton Fire Explorers and U.S. Marshals Task Force assisted in the investigation, according to the JTPD.
