César E. Chávez Bronze Statue Installed For Unveiling At El Rey Grocery Store Property

The unveiling of the Chávez life size bronze statue has been installed in time for Thursday's ceremony to unveil the sculpture on S. César E. Chávez Drive in Milwaukee's Southside.

Milwaukee, WI - On Monday, the life size bronze statute of the late United Farm Workers leader, César E. Chávez was installed at the Super Mercado El Rey outdoor market place, according to several photos posted on Facebook by Olivia Villarreal, one of the owners of the Mexican products store in Milwaukee. Villarreal wrote, "So proud of El Rey to have the sculpture of Cesar E. Chavez installed on its property. So many people have worked to get this accomplished. "SI SE PUEDE.""
The Chávez bronze statue was installed at the 900 block of S. César E. Chávez Drive in the El Rey Super Market outdoor market place. The Chávez statue project cost more than $50,000 and is part of a three year FARM Project to promote small business economic growth in the 12th Aldermanic District that will include a rich cultural environment for tourists, a consumer retail, food and art base attraction to the heart of the Latino community.
Owners of El Rey donated $10,000 for the cost of the statue, the outdoor market place space and any maintenance, including the cost of any future remodeling of the outdoor space.
Milwaukee will be the 8th location in the U.S. to have a life size statue to honor Chávez. The unveiling of the Chávez statue will take place on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. and the public is invited to attend, according the César E. Chávez Drive 38th Business Improvement District and Clarke Square.
