48-year-old Milwaukee Southside Montealban Paletero Dies After Double Vehicle Collision



A 48-year-old man who sold popsicles for the Southside Paletería Montealban was struck after two vehicles collided with each other on S. Cesar E. Chavez Drive and W. Mitchell Street and one hit the victim.

Milwaukee, WI - On Thursday, Andres Marin, 48, originally from Veracruz, Mexico who was pushing a bicycle ice cream cart was reported killed after being struck by a vehicle involved in a collision with another vehicle. Marin was identified by his brother, Alejandrino Marin. 
Andres is survived by his wife and two daughters ages 19 and 22 from Veracruz. He had just started working part time last week for the Paletería Montealban after he left a foundry job where he had worked. Alejandrino says, his brother had been in Milwaukee for 5 years. 
The owners of the Paletería Montealban stated that Andres was thinking about going back to Mexico a few days ago and had just left with the bicycle ice cream cart when he was fatally struck. All the ice cream supplies was totaled including the cart.
According to a Milwaukee police press release, a fatal traffic crash involving two vehicles and a bicycle ice cream cart happened around 10:20 a.m. in the 1600 block of W. Mitchell Street. A 2006 Toyota RAV4, driven by a 61-year-old woman, was traveling northbound on S. Cesar Chavez Drive and a 1999 Toyota Camry, driven by a 27-year-old man, was traveling southbound on S. Cesar Chavez Drive. Both vehicles had a green light and, as the RAV4 attempted to turn westbound on Mitchell Street, the two vehicles collided. The Camry then struck Marin on a bicycle ice cream cart. Marin was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries. The Milwaukee Police Department's investigation of the crash is ongoing. 
The 27-year-old driver was also hospitalized, according to police.
