Gresham, Wisconsin - On Friday, Marshall Daniel Svenson, 5, of Pulaski was reported decreased and the preliminary cause of death was accidental drowning. Svenson's death occurred around 8:23p.m. at Annie's Campground LLC's swimming water pond located at W125505 Roosevelt Rd. in Gresham located in Shawano County, according to the Shawano County Sheriff's Office. Svenson's body was pulled from the campground's pond by some teens and life saving attempts were unsuccessful by first responders and campers at the scene.
Svenson was taken to a local hospital where he was declared deceased.
On Monday, the Annie's Campground LLC Facebook (FB) page posted, "This post is intended for Lovers of Freedom, who believe in God, who are helpful to others and who are supportive of the Truth. Know that Little Man is in a much better place filled with the Loving Arms of our Lord, Jesus the Christ. May God's White Light Shine upon the Campground and the many loving families here to appreciate our Freedom that we must still fight to keep. Ann Marie Retzlaff, 52, aka, "Annie" of Gresham, the owner of Annie's Campground LLC, also a known Trump MAGA (Make Amerikkka Great Again/Keep Amerikkka Great) supporter received a backlash (more than 247 comments) on her campground's FB page alleging that she was using the boy's death to promote vacancies at the campground on Monday. FB users claim that Retzlaff was heartless, insensitive, atrocious and also called her a disgusting and terrible human being.
Hispanic News Network U.S.A. (HNNUSA) reported on May 27th that the campground page had posted that "We reserve the right to refuse service: No commies, thieves, illegal substances, antifa, blm or other terrorists. Safety is our #1 goal," which drew controversy.
Also on May 17, 2021, the Shawano County District Attorney's Office filed multiple felony charges against Retzlaff, 52, aka, "Annie" of Gresham in connection with a traffic stop violation and fleeing from deputies from Shawano on May 15. Retzlaff was charged with one felony charge for vehicle operator fleeing/eluding officer, two felony counts for 2nd-degree reckless endangering safety and one misdemeanor count for resisting/obstructing an officer.
If convicted, Retzlaff is facing up to 3 years and 6 months in prison and up to $10,000 in fines for fleeing an officer and up to 10 years in prison and up to $25,000 in fines for each felony count of reckless endangering safety. A $1,500 bond was set for Retzlaff. She was released on a signature bond.
She has a preliminary court hearing scheduled for August 13, 2021.
