Milwaukee, WI - The Milwaukee County Election Commission reported that Supervisor Peggy West representing the 12th District in the Southside received $500 from Sally Sprenger who operates ANEW Health Care Services, which has a contract with Milwaukee County to provide services to County residents. The donation that West reported in her finance report for the January 18, 2018 period is in direct violation of Milwaukee County Ethics Code 9.05(2) (k) & (l).
Sally is married to Gary Sprenger who are both known Republicans and have contributed thousands of dollars to Governor Scott Walker (R) and other Republicans including Supervisor West who seems to be running as a Progressive, but is rarely seen among the circle of active Progressives in Milwaukee County.
Supervisor West is currently Chairwoman of the Finance & Audit Committee and is a member of the Judiciary, Safety & General Services Committee, according to the Milwaukee County Board website.
Supervisor West has received more than $2K since 2011 from the Sprenger couple, according to Blogging Blue dot com. The Blogging Blue in 2013 reported, "Coincidentally (or not coincidentally, depending on your perspective), Sup. Romo West just so happens to be chairwoman of the County Board's Health and Human Needs Committee, the very committee that has direct oversight of Milwaukee County's Family Care program. What's more, ANEW provides the kind of community-based services that Sup. Romo West has recently been pushing/promoting in public forums.
What's really notable about the thousands of dollars Gary and Sally Sprenger have contributed to Peggy Romo West's campaign is that she appears to be the only Democrat and the only County Supervisor (in a county they don't live in, mind you) that the Sprengers have contributed to. I don't know about you, but that certainly seems curious."
Supervisor West is running for re-election in a non-partisan race in the predominantly Democrat Milwaukee County 12th District and has received the endorsements for re-election by Milwaukee Aldermen José G. Pérez and Ashanti Hamilton (President of the Common Council); State Senators Lena Taylor (D) and Latonya Johnson (D); State Representatives JoCasta Zamarripa (D), Christine Sinicki (D) and David Bowen (D), and U.S. Congresswoman Gwen Moore (D); Milwaukee County Judge Pedro Cólon and Milwaukee Municipal Judge Phil Chavez.
