Fitch Sr. taken into custody after a shootout in North Saint Paul.

Saint Paul, Minnesota - On Wednesday, Brian George Fitch Sr., 39, was taken into custody around 8:30 p.m. in North Saint Paul after a shootout with police. Fitch Sr. was wounded along with a female suspect. Both were taken to the Regions Hospital for treatment and are expected to survive, according to police.
Just after noon on Wednesday, Mendota Heights Police Officer Scott Patrick, 47, was reported killed around 12:20 p.m. while making a traffic stop near Dodd Road and Smith Avenue in West Saint Paul. Officer Patrick suffered a head wound and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Officer Patrick was standing by his police SUV when Fitch Sr., a wanted fugitive fired multiple shots at Patrick and fatally struck him in the head. Fitch Sr. had missed a court date for a burglary charge and was facing three years in prison. A warrant for his arrest was issued.
Patrick is survived by his wife and two teenage children. He is a 19-year veteran of the Mendota Heights Police Department.
The West Saint Paul Police Department, the Minnesota Bureau of Apprehension and the Saint Paul Police Department are investigating the homicide of Officer Patrick.
