León, Guanajuato, Mexico - Mexican authorities confirmed that Cartel del Juarez druglord Tirso Martínez Sánchez, 47, aka, "El Doctor" of Guadalajara was taken into custody on February 2 at a neighborhood known as La Martinica in the city of León. The druglord was taken without incident.
Martínez Sánchez was wanted by the U.S. authorities for smuggling 76 tons of cocaine into the U.S. between 2000 to 2003.
Martínez Sánchez in collaboration worked with Colombian cartels, according to federal authorities.
The U.S. State Department says, Martínez Sánchez operated the MSO criminal organization. The MSO used a network of large warehouses to store and distribute cocaine in Mexico and the United States. The organization operated a network of front companies to purchase or lease these instrumentalities and to purchase "cover loads" or legitimate goods that are stored and transported with the narcotics to mask the narcotics shipment. The MSO transported cocaine through ocean vessels, tractor-trailers, and railroad tanker cars. It is believed that between 2000 and 2003, the MSO's railroad network imported, transported, and distributed approximately 76 metric tons of cocaine into the United States.
The U.S. was offering $5M for information leading to his arrest and the Mexican government $3M.
