Santos-Adams Advances To Spring Election For Kenosha District 5 County Board Supervisor

CEO of the Racine and Kenosha Urban League wins spot for the Arpil 6 General Election in Kenosha

Kenosha -Yolanda Santos-Adams, CEO of the Racine and Kenosha Urban League, Inc. secured a place on the Kenosha Spring election ballot for Apirl 6. Santos-Adams is a candidate for Kenosha County Board Supervisor District 5th, and was a former Kenosha Unified School Board member elected from 1999 to 2003. She did not succeed in a re-election bid for the Unified School Board.
Santos-Adams, 56, received 54 votes, and Attorney David E. Celebre, 47, received 176 votes in the February 16 Primary Election. Both Santos-Adams and Celebre advanced to the General Election, and who ever wins the election will replace outgoing 5th District County Board Supervisor Jim Huff. 
Santos-Adams has been CEO of the Urban League since 2006, and in 2009 was elected State Deputy Director for League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC).
Over the weekend Santos-Adams began a Facebook group following, "Yolanda Santos-Adams for County Board Supervisor #5," administered by Larry Zamba. On the public Facebook group following, Darryl D. Morin wrote, "Yolanda, In all the years we have worked together in service to the community, I have never met a person as selfless and committed to serving others as you. You have my full support and I look forward to working with you in making your campaign a tremendous success for both you and the good people of Kenosha County."  Morin is the President and CEO of Advance Wireless Inc. and Wisconsin State Director for LULAC.
The Urban League is a non-profit community organization, with national headquarters in New York City and affiliates in cities throughout the nation. The Urban League provides African Americans and other disadvantaged groups with services to help secure economic self-reliance, equality, power and civil rights through education,  pre-employment training, youth empowerment and crime prevention initiatives.

Update: Kenosha election results, Tues. April 6, 2010, Kenosha County Supervisor District 5th, Reporting 100%, David Celebre won with 408 votes, 69% and Yolanda Santos Adams with 183 votes, 31%.
