Milwaukee, Wisconsin - Impromptu parading for the 5 de Mayo 2023 along S. César E. Chávez Dr. in the Southside of Milwaukee ends with two armed male suspects shot by police.
A night of lawlessness by individuals driving recklessly, public intoxication, nuisance noise, littering, speeding, men, teens and women seating on vehicle open windows while vehicles moving, disregard to public safty and burning rubber along S. Chávez Drive.
By 9:30 p.m., Milwaukee police blocked off the Northbound and Southbound lanes on Chávez Drive.
The Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) reported, a 22-year-old man from Greenfield began to discharge a handgun around 11:00 p.m. at the 1200 block of S. 15th Place and a 33-year-old male MPD officer with over 7 years of service encounter the suspect and ordered him to drop the gun when the officer fired his weapon striking the suspect. The suspect was struck by police gunfire and he was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
A 40-year-old male MPD officer with over 7 years of service encountered Deon Nabors, 17, from Milwaukee firing a handgun at the 1200 block of S. César E. Chávez Drive. The officer gave several commends for the teen to stop, the officer fired his weapon and struck Nabors. Nabors was conveyed to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The suspect is in stable condition, according to police
Both MPD officers were placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation.
The Milwaukee Homicide Unit is Investigating the officer involved shooting incident on S. 15th Place and the Milwaukee Area Investigative Unit will investigate the 1200 S. Chávez police involved shooting because it was a life-threatening injury. The Wauwatosa Police Department will be the lead investigative agency, the MPD reported.

Update: Nabors was charged on May 10, 2023 with two felony counts for 2nd-degree recklessly endangering safety with a dangerous weapon and use of a machine gun and one misdemeanor count for possession of a weapon by a person under 18.
If convicted, Nabors is facing 10 years in prison and up to $25,000 in fines for endangering safety and up to 6 years in prison for use of a machine gun and up to $10,000 in fines. He is also facing up to 9 months in jail and up to $10,000 in fines for possession of a weapon under 18.
