José Sánchez García, Local Gulf Cartel Leader In Tamaulipas Arrested

García was arrested in Matamoros, according to the Mexican National Security Agency.

Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico - On Sunday, the Mexican National Security Agency Commissioner Alejandro Rubido reported that José Sánchez García, 47, a local Gulf Cartel leader in the state of Tamaulipas was taken into custody on Thursday after a brief battle with federal troops in Matamoros. Rubido stated that federal Mexican Marines and Federal Police surrounded a home in Matamoros, which borders with Brownville, Texas and engaged in a battle that involve gunfire and grenade launchers from bodyguards protecting García. García of Abasolo was taken into custody for the alleged murder to two police officers and kidnapping several employees from the fedetal Attorney General's Office. García is connected to the September 2014 murder of a kidnapped Federal Police officer and the murder of a federal security supervisor on August 23, 2014.
García operated in the municipalities of Alameda, Soto de la Marina and Abasolo.
