Victor Santiago Charged For S. Chávez Drive Hit-and-Run Death While Intoxicated

Santiago was charged with the hit-and-run vehicular homicide while intoxicated.

Milwaukee, WI - On Wednesday, Victor Santiago, 49, was charged with three felony counts for homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, homicide by use of a vehicle with prohibited alcohol concentration and hit-and-run involved death of Alfred De la O. Silveira, 63, last Sunday in Milwaukee's Southside. Santiago struck Silveira while crossing the 900 block of S. César E. Chavez Drive around 12:30 a.m.
Santiago failed to stop and he was later taken into custody after police located his vehicle. A small bag with 0.23 grams of cocaine was found in his possession, according to police. A drug test was performed to determine, if Santiago was positive for cocaine use when he struck Silveira.
A cash bail of $50,000 was set for Santiago and he is expected back in court on December 4 for a preliminary hearing.
Santiago's blood-alcohol concentration was .187, more than twice the legal limit. If convicted, Santiago is facing up to 25 years in prison and $100,000 in fines.
