Milwaukee, WI - On Monday, Vincent Synowicz, 18, former president of the Walker Square Neighborhood Association (WSNA) announced that he will challenge incumbent JoCasta Zamarripa who represents the 8th Assembly District in the south side. Synowicz who hasn't voted yet because he just turned 18 in August and opposes Obamacare is running as a Democrat. He wants to oust Zamarripa, also a Democrat in the August 12th Primary Election.
Synowicz says he wants to focus on jobs, better educational opportunities to low-income and middle class students, along with safer neighborhoods in the City of Milwaukee.
Synowics became president of the WSNA in October 2013 and resigned on January 13, according to his Facebook posting announcing he was stepping down as president. He also filed a Declaration of Candidacy for the 8th Assembly District with the State of Wisconsin Government Accountability Board on Monday.
Zamarripa, 37, was first elected to the State Assembly on January 2011 and was re-elected. She is currently serving her second two year term and is expected to run for re-election in 2014.
Zamarripa became the first Hispanic bisexual woman to be elected to the Assembly. She is a strong advocate for same sex marriage, is expected to propose a bill to allow undocumented immigrants to apply for state driver licenses.
Currently, both the State Assembly and the Senate are controlled by Republicans and Governor Scott Walker (R) opposes granting licenses to undocumented immigrants.
