Milwaukee, Wisconsin - On Tuesday, the Milwaukee Common Council on a vote of 13-0 decided for nonrenewal of the Class B Tavern, Public Entertainment Premises and Food Dealer licenses for Antonio R. Layton based upon the preponderance of the evidence in the police report, residents, aldermanic, applicant and Milwaukee Police Department officers testimony that demonstrated the operation results in a threat to health, safety and welfare of the public for the reckless driving of patrons, excessive loitering, assaults, battery, loud noise at the time that the bar is operating and the failure to comply with the approved plan of operations; for the premises located at 2537 W National Av. ("La Cueva") in the 8th Aldermanic District.
La Cueva was only licensed to sell beer, but it also sold bottled alcohol at the restaurant and tavern, which violated the restrictions of a Class B Tavern license in the City of Milwaukee.
According to Alderwoman JoCasta Zamarripa from the 8th Aldermanic District, Layton and his manager Kurtis Peterson operated La Cueva like a nightclub and operated it the wrong way, which resulted in the nonrenewal of their beer Class B Tavern, Public Entertainment Premises and Food Dealer licenses.
On Tuesday, February 11, 2025 was the last day La Cueva was open to operate. As of Wednesday, La Cueva's operating licenses expired.
La Cueva's Milwaukee social media (Facebook) page recently changed to MCE Promotion Group.
