Milwaukee, WI - On Wednesday, Luz Sosa, the Hispanic Community Organizer at Citizen Action of Wisconsin/Acción Ciudadana de Wisconsin (CAW) confirmed to Hispanic News Network U.S.A. (HNNUSA) that she is departing from CAW on Saturday and will become an independent organizing consultant in the Milwaukee metropolitan area including statewide community organizing efforts dealing with issues affecting the community at large. Sosa has worked over 3 years at CAW and was instrumental in building a strong Latino base within CAW, a non-profit progressive organization. Sosa also led the successful launch of Acción Ciudadana, a Latino base chapter within Citizen Action's Southeast Wisconsin Organizing Co-op.
Sosa and the members of Acción Ciudadana were instrumental in organizing the co-op to elect key progressive members to local and statewide office. In the Spring of 2017, Acción Ciudadana members spent over two months knocking doors and making calls for member Tony Baez, who went on to be elected to the Milwaukee School Board. Last year, members worked overtime to help elect member Marisabel Cabrera (D) to the Wisconsin State Assembly, including a surprise primary election victory over an entrenched incumbent.
Sosa also independently worked for the succesful Sylvia Ortiz-Velez for Milwaukee County Supervisor campaign. Ortiz-Velez was elected.
Sosa on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 organized the "Close the Camps" protest rally at the federal courthouse as a national day of action, which more than 170 cities participated calling for federal legislators to close the concentration camps where undocumented children are being held in inhumane conditions under the Trump administration.
In April 2017, Sosa was instrumental in organizing  "Todos Somos Peru",  a fundraising relief effort for Peru after heavy rains caused floods and mud slides, which Sosa and community members including Acción Ciudadana members raise more than $8,500.
