Haslett, Michigan - Ernesto R. Rodriguez, 83, a well known and respected artist, poet and political activist in the Milwaukee Latino community in Wisconsin and Michigan has passed away. Rodriguez painted hundreds of paintings that depicted the Chicano, Mexican movement and other issues that Latinos faced in the U.S.
Rodriguez passed away on Monday in Michigan where he resided at Grange Acres in Haslet. He would return to Milwaukee to visit and enjoyed the annual Mexican Fiesta at the lakefront.
Rodriguez was originally from Galveston, Texas. He spent 26-years in prison and co-authored "In The Iron Cage" book, which is a true biography of the life of Rodriguez.
Rodriguez is survived by sons and daughters.
Rodriguez will be greatly missed by family and friends.
