Beloit, Wisconsin - On Friday, Austin Ramos Jr., 5, from the Town of Beloit was fatally shot just after 7:15 p.m. while riding in the rear vehicle seat in a car seat of his father's vehicle, according to David Zibolski, Interim City of Beloit Police Chief. The father of the deceased child told police that he noticed an SUV following them for some distance. When he approached the Piggly Wiggly parking lot at the intersection of Shopiere Road and Prairie Avenue, multiple shots were fired and then noticed his son, Austin had been injured and shot in the abdomen. Austin was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The Beloit hospital went into a lock down by order of the police, according to medical staff.
Police at this time don't know, if the vehicle Ramos was riding in was the intended target, according to Zibolski.
Police are looking for a possible GMC maroon SUV year model between late 1990's or early 2000's. Police are reviewing nearby businesses for video camera surveillance to see whether a suspect or suspects connected to the Ramos homicide can be identified.
Both the City of Beloit Police Department and the Rock County Sheriff's Office are investigating the Ramos homicide.
