Beloit, Wisconsin - Police in Beloit arrested Chad Hummel, 33, of Beloit for intoxicated use of a vehicle causing death and a probation hold in connection with the Friday night death of Eldon L. Bailey, 82, of Beloit. Hummel was traveling Westbound in a White Dodge Avenger on W. Grand Ave. around 8:00 p.m. when he failed to stop and ran through a stop sign striking Bailey who was going Northbound on Hackett Street.
Bailey died at the scene and three of his passengers were injured and taken to Beloit Memorial Hospital for treatment. Two of the victims have been released from the hospital and one remains in serious condition.
Police determined Hummel was intoxicated and speeding at the time of the crash.
In another unrelated homicide, the Rock County Sheriff's Office (RCSO) announced that Marcus Clay, 28, of Beloit was arrested and charged with party to a crime for 1st-degree intentional homicide in connection with the murder of Cassini C. Hill, 29, on January 8, in the Town of Turtle. Hill was found shot multiple times in a roadway at the 1200 block of Colley Road and was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the RCSO.
Clay turned himself to his probation officer on January 12 on a probation violation hold warrant.
