Washington, D.C. - On Thursday, the U.S. Supreme Court on a vote 5 - 3 ruled that Arizona had a legal right to revoke business licenses from employers who hired illegal immigrants. The right for states to impose sanctions against employers who hire illegal employees derived from federal immigration laws, according to the court.
The ruling only applies to imposing sanctions against businesses that hire illegal workers. The ruling also clears the way for states to enact laws to revoke business licenses from companies that hire undocumented workers.
So far, eight states have enacted similar laws.
