Madison - Last week, Manuel "Manny" Perez in an e-mail announced his resignation as Wisconsin Secretary of the Department of Workforce Development (DWD). In the e-mail Perez wrote, "Having led this agency since January 2011 to help formulate Wisconsin’s workforce strategy, I have decided to re-enter the private sector to take advantage of Wisconsin’s and national growing economy... I feel the time is right to pursue other opportunities in the private sector knowing that the Department of Workforce Development is moving in the right direction and that we have accomplished great things together in a very short period of time."
When contacted on Wednesday, Perez confirmed that his last day as Secretary of the DWD was on Tuesday. He strongly stated, that he had accomplished what he wanted to accomplish in five months and it was time to return to the private sector.
No other reasons were given to suggest why Perez decided to abruptly leave his position at DWD. He was the first Hispanic to be appointed as Secretary of the DWD and to briefly occupy a cabinet position in Governor Scott Walker's administration. Perez was appointed Secretary of the DWD by Governor Walker in January 2011. Walker has not released any statement concerning Perez's resignation.
Perez, a labor market economist, had more than 25 years in the staffing and human resource industry. He is a former Manpower Inc., executive and owner of a staffing company in Milwaukee.
