San Bernardino, California - On Friday, Larry Hernández, 38, a popular Mexican narco ballad singer was taken into custody at the Ontario Airport around 2:39 p.m. by authorities as he attempted to board a flight. Hernández was booked in the San Bernardino County Jail and is being held without bail at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, California, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office.
Hernández was arrested in connection with the August 16 alleged kidnapping and beating of a man associated with a dance promoter in Newberry, South Carolina. Police in Newberry issued a warrant for Hernández arrest for multiple felony charges that include kidnapping, assault and battery by mob beating in the 3rd-degree, according to a press release by the City of Newberry.
Hernández will appear at a San Bernardino County Superior Court on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 for an extradition hearing to face charges in South Carolina.
According to the criminal complaint, a dance promoter paid $14,000 of a $30,000 contract agreement to perform at a dance. The promoter couldn't pay the remaining balance so members of the band with the knowledge of Hernández held without permission an assistant or associate of the dance promoter against his will until the full payment was paid. The victim was wrapped in plastic and beaten by band members until he was able to escape and notify police.
