Police chief in Peachtree under investigation after shooting his wife on early New Year's Day.

Peachtree, Georgia - On Friday, Peachtree Police Chief William McCollom was placed on administrative leave after he called 911 and reported that he had shot his wife Margaret McCollom once with his service Glock 17, 9mm handgun around 4:17 a.m. She was taken to the Atlanta Medical Center by a helicopter.
McCollom claimed that he accidentally shot his wife once with his service weapon.
The shooting investigation of McCollom's wife was turned over to the state's Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). Chief McCollom has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, according to Lieutenant Mark Brown, the Public Information Officer for the Peachtree Police Department.
The Fayette County District Attorney's Office will review the case once the investigation findings are turned over to them by the GBI and will later determine, if Chief McCollom will be charged with a crime.
