Milwaukee, WI - On Tuesday, Derrick L. Brown, 32, was charged with two felony counts for first-degree sexual assault and kidnapping for the December 12, 2014 attack on Colin Acumen, 25. Acumen was walking on the sidewalk by the Snails Crossing Park and playground at the 3200 block of N. Bremen St. in the Riverwest neighborhood.
Police say, Brown forced the Acumen into the park, then struck her several times and attempted to sexually assault her. She resisted, managed to scream and Brown fled after people came to her aid.
Brown was identified through DNA, according to police. Brown was arrested on Friday after he was located by police at a residence in the 2600 block of N. 48th Street. Brown jumped out from a window and tried to elude police, but a Milwaukee Police K9 dog chased Brown, caught up with him and bit the Brown to restrain him. He was taken to a local hospital and treated for injuries.
The day after her brutal attack by Brown, Acumen in her Facebook account posted a photo of herself in a hospital bed directly giving the "Bird" (middle finger), as a defiant statement to Brown who brutally assaulted her and attempted to rape her that December night. She wrote, "Guess who didn't get raped last night? This woman right here."
Acumen suffered four lacerations in the back of her head requiring 15 staples, ten stiches in her noise, six stiches in her lip and damage to her two front teeth, which will eventually have to be pulled. In her last posting on December 22, Acumen wrote that she is healing and the staples have been removed, fracture bones are healing and was expected go through several surgeries.
Acumen acknowledged those (heroes) who heard her screams for help and came to her aid.
Acumen is part of the Milton Kings, a Burlesque and Draglesque performing and entertainment show in the Milwaukee area.

I use to live right across the street from that park. Its a lovely quaint riverwest neighborhood and residents there are very friendly and helpful. So glad you are getting better and healing. Such a strong woman. Rejoiced in the fact that they caught this monster and he will pay for his doings. What is this world coming to with all these sexual assaults? I live it as well and just cant comprehend what some people are thinking doing such things. So many sick minds thinking they can get away it. well this one didn't as well as those child molesters just caught recently. A father doing things to his own daughter. May these men rot in their jail cell with the same punishment! Sorry had to say that!
