Bell Gardens, California - On Wednesday,  Levette Crespo, 43, the wife of Mayor Daniel Crespo Sr., 45, of Bell Gardens was released after she was taken into custody for questioning in connection with the fatal shooting of her husband, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office (LACSO). The LACSO will turn over the case to the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office for review and to decide whether to press criminal charges against Levette for her husband's death.
Mayor Crespo Sr. suffered multiple gunshot wounds just before 2:30 p.m. during a domestic violence dispute on Tuesday with his wife at their residence, 6300 block of E. Gage Ave.
Crespo Sr. was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Homicide investigators haven't released any information into what led Crespo's wife to shoot him multiple times in the upper torso during a heated argument and physical altercation that involved her and their son, Daniel Crespo Jr., 19.
Crespo Jr. and his father were struggling when Levette grabbed a gun and  fatally shot her husband three times. Crespo Jr. who suffered facial injuries was also questioned and released. No charges pending.
Crespo Sr. is originally from La Bronx, New York and was elected mayor of Bell Gardens last year. He became a member of the Bell Gardens Common Council in 2001. The couple also have a 26-year-old daughter.
Levette admitted to investigators that she shot Crespo Sr. during a family argument turned tragic. Neighbors told media local outlets that Levette was known to be a very jealous wife and had confronted her husband in the past about her jealousy.
