Waukesha, WI - On Tuesday, José Manuel Cruz-Crispin, 24, was deported to Mexico by the U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Enforcement Removal Operations (ERO) for missing a 2010 immigration court hearing, according to Voces de la Frontera (VDLF), a immigrant and workers rights non-profit organization from Milwaukee. Cruz-Crispin never received a letter from ICE informing him of a pending hearing. When he failed to show up for the hearing, an immigration judge ordered his removal. VDLF confirmed on Wednesday that Cruz-Crispin had been deported, despite efforts by citizens to contact ICE on Tuesday to stay his deportation.
Cruz-Crispin was arrested on October 4 by Waukesha police for a speeding violation and he was later turned over to ICE on a hold request.
Cruz-Crispin has lived in the U.S. for 11 years and has three U.S. born children, two twin boys ages 5 and one 11-year-old. He has no criminal record, according to VDLF.
Cruz-Crispin's lawyer tried to reopen his 2010 immigration case, but the deportation proceeded.
