Bloomington, Minnesota - On Sunday, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson confirmed on CNN that terrorists from al-Shabaab threaten and have targeted the Mall of America (MOA) for a terrorist attack and people shopping at the MOA should be careful today. The information comes from intelligence that the al-Shabaab terrorist group from Somalia could be associated with ISIS and might have terrorist cells in the U.S., Canada and other European countries. The al-Shabaab group has called on terrorist Somali cells to plan and carry out attacks at shopping malls where large shopping crowds are attracted too.
"If anyone is planning to go to the Mall of America today, they've got to be particularly careful today," Johnson told CNN. According to their website, the MOA is owned and operated by Triple Five Group, an Edmond, Alberta base development company. More than 40M people visit the MOA in Bloomington per year and has a year round indoor entertainment mechanical rides, at least 500 retail stores, including a movie theater, restaurants and bars.
The MOA has elevated their threat security alert at the mall.
