Cairns, Queensland, Australia - On Saturday, Mersane Warria, 37, also known as Raina Thaiday, a mother of seven murdered children and a niece has been charged in connection with Thursday's mass murder. Warria was charged with eight counts of homicide. Police recovered several knives at the crime scene believed to have been used as murder weapons.
Queensland police discovered the bodies of four sisters ages, Malili, 14, 12, 11 and Petronella, 2, and three brothers ages, 9, 8, 6 and Rodney, 5. The children were fathered by five different men during relationships with Warria. Also Angelina Thaiday, 14, a cousin of the children was found dead. Some of the young victims suffered stab wounds and others were strangled to death.
A 20-year-old son had come home and found the gruesome murders on late Thursday morning and called police. Warria and a step father of the children were hospitalized for knife wounds. Warria had knife wounds to the chest and neck, but survived.
