Santa Ana, California - On Friday, Orange County Superior Court Judge Thomas M. Goethals sentenced both Candice Marie Brito, 27, and Vanesa Tapia Zavala, 26, to 6 years in prison each for the voluntary manslaughter and assault of Annie Hung Kim Pham, 23, on January 19. Pham was brutally beaten by Brito and Zavala after Pham got into a heated argument with one of their friends outside the Crosby night club. Pham's brutal attack was partially captured on a cell phone by a witness.
Pham was taken off from life support on January 21. She suffered severe head trauma and brain damage from being repeatedly kicked in the head.
Both convicted felons were facing up to 11 years in prison, which Pham's parents pleaded for Judge Goethals to hand down the maximum sentence to no avail.
They were ordered to pay $5,000 each in fines and a combine $3,500 for Pham's funeral expenses, according to court records.
