Seven Suspects Charged In Connection With Monica Spear Mootz Homicide

The Monica Spear Mootz and Henry Thomas Berry murder suspects are Jean Carlos Colina Alcalá, 19, Alejandro Maldonado Pérez, 21, Adolfo Rico Agreda, 26, Leonar Marcano Lugo, 32, and Eva Armas Mejías, 39, including two adolescents ages 17 and 15. Three other suspects have been also implicated.

Police arrested and charged seven suspects, including a woman and two minors for the homicide of former Miss Venezuela 2004.

Caracas, Venezuela - On Wednesday, authorities in Venezuela announced the arrest of four men, one woman and two minors in connection with the homicides of both Monica Spear Moots, 29, a U.S. Citizen from Miami and her ex-husband, Henry Thomas Berry, 39. Spear Mootz, a former Miss Venezuela 2004 and soap opera star for Telemundo and Berry were killed in a failed attempted arm robbery on Monday night in a remote road. Their daughter, Maya, 5, was critically injured by gunfire, but is expected to survive.
The suspects were identified by police as Jean Carlos Colina Alcalá, 19, Alejandro Maldonado Pérez, 21, Adolfo Rico Agreda, 26, Leonar Marcano Lugo, 32, and Eva Armas Mejías, 39, including two adolescents ages 17 and 15.
Three other suspects have been also implicated in the Spear Moots and Berry homicides, they were identified as Mélfrin Antonio Jiménez Álvarez, 21, Franklin Daniel Cordero Álvarez, 28, and Gerardo José Contreras Álvarez,18.
Authorities say the victims were fatally shot in a remote highway between Valencia and Puerto Cabello.
Venezuela police say, that an attempted armed robbery went wrong when the victim's leased gray Toyota Corolla became disable with punctured tires around 10:00 p.m. on Monday and were parked along the highway. Several suspects tried to rob the couple while a tow truck had already loaded the disable Toyota in its flatbed.
The victims were in the vehicle and had locked themselves inside when the suspected fired at least six shots fatally striking both Spear Mootz and Berry.
Spear Moots was visting her ill mother during a vacation trip, according to family members.
Venezuela reported at least 25,000 homicides in 2013.
