Iowa City, Iowa - On Friday, Mennonite Pastor Max Villatoro, 41, father of four U.S. born children was deported to Honduras after losing an immigration appeal to stay in the country. Villatoro in 1998 was convicted for driving under the influence and in 1999 was convicted for falsifying documents when he purchased a Social Security number to apply for a driver's license.
Those convictions led the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to target Villatoro for deportation, he was arrested in early March. Villatoro's wife, Gloria is also undocumented, but have four U.S. born children.
Villatoro was among 2,000 undocumented immigrants arrested by ICE throughout the U.S. in March who were convicted for minor to serious crimes. Some of those arrested were DREAMers as well.
Villatoro, clergy and his supporters made an appeal to President Barack H. Obama to stay his deportation, but the Obama administration deported the pastor.
