Milwaukee, WI - On Wednesday, Potawatomi Hotel and Casino administrative officials have confirmed that bedbugs have been found in isolated areas in the casino. Hispanic News Network U.S.A. (HNNUSA) first broke the story after it was learned that the Blackjack area had been shut down for an hour or two the other day due to a bedbug problem.
Potawatomi Hotel and Casino staff and employees had been restricted from saying anything or warn the public until HNNUSA broke the bedbug dilemma going on for weeks at the casino on Tuesday.
Potawatomi Hotel and Casino recently opened their $150M hotel and officials are taking measures to make sure the bedbugs don't invade the hotel area.
Potawatomi released the following statement, "We immediately treated those areas and are working diligently to ensure no other areas are affected. We have not found any evidence of this issue in the hotel.
"Outside experts will be working on site over the next several days to ensure the issue is eradicated and to establish a system to prevent any future recurrence. We are also working closely with the city of Milwaukee Department of Neighborhood Services," Ryan Amundson, spokesman for Potawatomi Casino stated.
According to exterminators, it will take at least three weeks to get rid of the bedbugs at the Potawatomi Casino. Bedbugs multiply quickly, have heat sensors that seek and locate humans in any room or place. When humans are asleep, they crawl up and inject a fluid that numbs any feeling of them sucking blood all night until satisfied. They usually leave a red mark. Bedbugs can live up to a year without sucking any blood. They also leave black spots on beds, mattresses, sheets, pillows and walls. Their eggs are small and soft white, which hatch within days. It is not known how many Potawatomi Casino visitors or those regular gamblers took bedbugs home with them instead of big winnings.
People who have an infestation of bedbugs at home will pay more than $1,500 to get an exterminator to eradicate bedbugs and it might take several visits to get rid of them.
