Waukegan, Illinois - On Friday, Margaret Carrasco, a well known community activist in Waukegan posted on her Facebook account that an overnight shooting and a morning shooting had been reported to police by residents to no avail. Carrasco confirmed that gunshots fired were heard at night and then gunshots were also fired once again around 6:30 a.m. in the Yeoman Park area, which were reported to the Waukegan Police Department (WPD) by residents and a local business owner.
Miguel Davalos, the owner of the Santa Anita Bakery at the 700 block of Yeoman Street reported to police that gunshots were fired in the morning, but police arrived to investigate the incident several hours later. The slow police response to a shooting scene has residents criticizing the WPD.
Carrasco when contacted by Hispanic News Network U.S.A. (HNNUSA) says that she also posted information about the shooting in the WPD and the City of Waukegan Facebook accounts, but both the WPD and the City FB pages removed her comment postings about the shootings without responding about the alleged police two hour late response to the Yeoman Park shootings.
Davalos posted multiple photos of the Santa Anita Bakery business window being shot in Carrasco's FB and including a bullet found on the floor at the establishment. HNNUSA has visited both the WPD and City's FB accounts and no report of the shooting has been made public.
