Two Gang Members Indicted For Gonzales Tilted Cap Homicide

man.

Round Lake Beach, Illinois - On Wednesday, both Jose M. Garcia, 18, of Mundelein and Jose Rebollar-Verara, 24, of Round Lake Park were indicted by a grand jury for the March 10, first-degree murder of Gabriel Gonzales, 19, of Zion. The indictment states, that the suspects believed Gonzales was a member of a rival gang when he walked into the One Stop Food and Liquor with his cap tilted. When Gonzales exited the store, Garcia, Rebollar-Verara and an unidentified accomplice followed Gonzales outside into the parking lot. The suspects began to make gang signs at Gonzales and while the victim attempted to leave the scene, Garcia pulled out a .22 Caliber weapon and fired ten times at Gonzales. Gonzales was shot once in the back and died at the scene.
Several witnesses identified the suspects. Both Garcia and Rebollar-Verara confessed to authorities of killing Gonzales.
They remained at the Lake County jail unable to post bond of $3 million dollars each. Their next court date will be on May 2, for an arraignment hearing, to Assistant State Attorney Ken LaRue.
