Milwaukee Officer Continues In Critical Condition After Drunk Driver Struck His Vehicle

Officer Albert continues to recover after sustaining critical injuries when a drunk female driver going the wrong way on the highway without lights struck his vehicle.

Milwaukee, WI - On Thursday, Milwaukee Police Officer Joshua Albert, 31, continued to recover after being injured in a drunk driving incident on early Wednesday along the freeway system. Officer Albert had just finished his shift and was heading home after midnight along I-94 near the 35th Street exit when a woman going the wrong way on the freeway without headlights struck Albert's vehicle head-on.
The woman who was identified as Erin M. Salmon, 23, and Albert were critically injured in the crash. Emergency crews had to use Jaws of Life to extract both victims from their mangled vehicles at the scene. They were taken to Froedtert Hospital where they remain in critical condition on Thursday, according to the Milwaukee Police Facebook posting.
Salmon is facing several felony charges, including driving while intoxicated. She was also cited for OWI-1st time, going the wrong way on a divided highway, driving without head lights and reckless driving, including causing endangerment while driving, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office reported that so far, there have been at least 20 wrong way accidents in the county freeway system this year.
