Mequon - On Friday, both Homestead High School students DeAngelo D. Dantzler, 18, and Brent P. Anderson, 18, were charged with one felony count each for 2nd-degree sexual assault of a child under the age of 16. The criminal complaint states, the suspects engaged in a sexual encounter with a 14-year-old girl during school hours in early November.
A Mequon police officer stationed at Homestead High School learned of the assault in mid November. The officer after investigating discovered that a 14-year-old girl, 15-year-old boy and both Dantzler and Anderson were involved in a sexual encounter. In one incident, the sex acts occured at a practice room at the school, according to the officer's investigation.
The girl first admitted that she consented to some acts, but is now saying some of the sex acts were not consensual. Under Wisconsin state law, a child under the age of 16 can not legally consent to have sex.
The Ozaukee County District Attorney's Office filed the charges against Dantzler and Anderson. They were briefly taken into custody and then released. They both face up to 40 years in prison and up to $100,000 in fines, if convicted. Dantzler and Anderson would also have to register as sex offenders.
The 14-year-old girl has been removed from Homestead by her parents and will be place at another high school. The parents aquired an attorney to represent their daughter in a possible civil lawsuit and to seek additional charges against the suspects.
Dantzler and Anderson have returned to Homestead High School, but are scheduled to appear in court on December 13.
