Milwaukee - On Thursday, Akira Kirt, 32, was charged with three felony counts of 2nd-degree endangerment, including two misdemeanors for driving drunk while having children under 16 years of age in the vehicle and causing a roll over accident. Kirt charges includes a first offense Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) and having an alcohol content of .15, twice the legal limit allowed to drive, both misdemeanors.
Last Saturday, Sheriff deputies investigating an SUV roll over at 2:00 p.m. on the N. 10 Street exit and I-43 discovered Kirt was intoxicated. She admitted to deputies that she was drunk at the time and should be arrested. She had 11 children ages 2 to 16 including seven of her own children as passengers, which some lacked legal restraints as required by state law, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's report. Five of the children suffered minor injuries.
The accident occured after Kirt hit a concrete barrier and rolled over totalling the Dodge Durango she was driving. The SUV Kirt was driving belongs to someone else.
Kirt had a .15 alcohol content on her blood, which is twice the legal limit. She was driving without a license or insurance.
Kirt had been cited several times for driving without a license in 2008 and has never obtained one, according to court records.
If convicted, Kirt is facing up to 70 years in prison and more than $30,000 in fines or both.
