Milwaukee - On Monday, the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office is reviewing an alleged felony charge sought by the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department (MCS) against Akira Kirt. Kirt, 32, is facing multiple charges and Sheriff David Clarke is seeking the felony charge for driving drunk.
She was arrested last Saturday for a first offense Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) after Sheriff deputies investigating an SUV roll over at 2:00 p.m. on the 10 Street exit and I-43 discovered she was intoxicated. She admitted to deputies that she was drunk at the time and should be arrested, according to the MCS report.
Deputies confirmed that Kirt had 11 children as passagers ages from 2 to 17 including 7 of her own children. Five of the children suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital.
The accident occured after Kirt hit a concrete barrier and rolled over totalling the Dodge Durango she was driving. The SUV Kirt was driving belongs to someone else.
Kirt had a .16 alcohol content on her blood, which is twice the legal limit. She was driving without a license or insurance. Kirt had been cited several times for driving without a license in 2008 and has never obtained one, according to court records.
She remains in custody unable to post bail at the Milwaukee County jail, the MCS reported.
