Milwaukee, Wisconsin - On Friday, countless of students from St. Augustine Prepatory Academy voucher high school in the Southside of Milwaukee walked out from their school to show solidarity with the immigrant communities. The students were joined by the Brown Beret Organization Wisaztlan who marched with the students in solidarity.
The students and the Brown Beret Organization Wisaztlan marched to the United Migrant Opportunity Services Center, despite the low freezing temp of 15° and snowy weather conditions.
The students defied the St. Augustine Prepatory Academy (Agu Prep) administration attempt to stop (prohibit) the students from walking out due to safety concerns. Jack Wallace, the principal at the Aug Prep attempted to stop the students from exercising their 1st Amendment right to peacefully protest against the alleged illegal acts perpetuated by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (USICE). A recent ruling by a federal judge stated that USICE has committed violations in more than 74 cases. (Video link: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1BQRPvwVaL/)
According to Principal Wallace in a notice to students stated, "We can not condone or support a student walkout...for safety reasons...students who choose to walk out will receive an unexcused absence and may face additional disciplinary action.
The Aug Prep is owned and founded by Gus Ramirez (chairman of HUSCO International) and his family through the Ramirez Family Foundation.
