19-year-old Jonathan A. Prado Charged With 2nd-degree Reckless Homicide And Fleeing An Officer In The Death Of Izack Zavala, 18, In The Southside Of Milwaukee


Prado was charged in the rollover crash in the Southside of Milwaukee that killed his 18-year-old cousin, who was the passenger of the vehicle Prado was driving.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin - On Wednesday, Jonathan A. Prado, 19, was charged with two felony counts, 2nd-degree reckless homicide and fleeing an officer for the January 4, 2026 rollover crash that killed Izack Zavala, 18, at S. 37 Street and W. Mitchell Street in the Southside of Milwaukee.

If convicted, Prado is facing up to 25 years in prison and up to $100,000 in fines, or both, for 2nd-degree reckless homicide, and facing up to 25 years in prison and up to $100,000 in fines, or both, for fleeing an officer.

Zavala was the passenger in the vehicle and his cousin, Prado was driving the vehicle, according to the criminal complaint. The vehicle crashed while being pursuit into Milwaukee by West Milwaukee police after Prado failed to stop for a traffic violation along S. Miller Parkway and W. Lincoln Ave..

West Milwaukee police pursuit the vehicle when it struck a roundabout at a high speed of rate (over 80 mph) and went airborne striking a tree, which both Zavala and Prado were ejected from the vehicle on impact.

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office declared Zavala deceased at the scene on Sunday.

Prado was critically injured and was transported to Froedtert Hospital for treatment.
