Martinez pleaded guilty for one felony count of reckless homicide involving a three vehicle crash in Waukegan in 2021 resulting in Gloria's vehicular homicide.

Waukegan, Illinois - On December 11, 2025, Lake County Judge James Booras sentenced Francisco J. Martinez, 52, to 2 years probation and 200 hours of community service after pleading guilty to one felony count for reckless homicide for the February 28, 2021 vehicular homicide of Maria del Carmen (Nava) Gloria, 64, of Kenosha, Wisconsin under a plea agreement with the Lake County District Attorney's Office. Martinez was also ordered to pay $2,000 in restitution, according to Lake County court records.
According to the criminal complaint, Martinez was driving recklessly, speeding and went through a red light causing a three vehicle crash at Lewis Ave. and York House Road on February 28, 2021. Martinez struck the vehicle that Gloria was a passenger in, Gloria's daughter, the driver survived.
Gloria suffered critical injuries and was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment, but was pronounced deceased two hours later from blunt force trauma injuries from the crash, according to the Lake County Medical Examiner's Office in Illinois.
Martinez was charged with two felony counts for reckless homicide in December 2023.
Gloria was originally from Cerritos, San Luis, Potosi, Mexico, and arrived in the U.S. with her family in 1993 to pursue the American dream.
