Milwaukee, Wisconsin - The Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) administration announced the Grand Opening of the Community Impact Office, which replaced the Multicultural Student Services in late August 2025, in order to comply with Trump's illegal attempt to eliminate all Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) programs at colleges and universities. Multiple federal court decisions have ruled that the elimination of DEI programs and threatening to withhold federal funding from colleges that don't comply by Trump was illegal and unconstitutional because it violates free speech for instructors in the classrooms.
Dr. Anthony Cruz, President of MATC did not challenged Trump's decision to eliminate DEI and instead Cruz decided to eliminate the Office Multicultural Student Services at the college and replaced with the Office of Community Impact, which voided most student services provided by the Multicultural Student Services and also terminated four student services specialists without just cause other than they provided bilingual services, counseling and etc., which were considered race oriented by the MATC administration.
Dr. Cruz and the MATC Board of Trustees have ignored demands by the communities of color, Latino/Hispanic, African-American, Asian-American and Native-American, to restore the Multicultural Student Services and the four student specialists, or expanding the Office of Community Impact to also include Multicultural student services to students of color at the college.
So far, the Office of Community Impact website search at MATC hasn't provided any information about the type of services it will provide to students of color.
An invitation is extended to the communities of color and students of color to take advantage of this opportunity, by making your presence known and protest the Grand Opening of the Office of Community Impact at MATC downtown campus.
The Grand Opening for the Office of Community Impact is scheduled for Tuesday, January 27, 2026, ribbon cutting at 3:00 p.m. at room M238, at the MATC downtown campus, 700 W. State Street. The Grand Opening event runs from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., also at 4:00 p.m. the MATC Board of Trustees will have their monthly meeting in room M210.
Justice for the four Multicultural student service specialists that were unjustly terminated by Dr. Cruz and supported by the MATC Board of Trustees!
