Milwaukee, WI - The overdosed male victim discovered at an alley around 2:00 p.m. near the 2100 block of S. 16 Street between W. Grant and W. Becher Street on August 12th without an ID has been identified as Nigel Ernst Hagen, 36, of Milwaukee. Hagen was identified by his mother, according to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office (MCMEO).
In 2018, the MCMEO reported that there have been 173 drug-related deaths, with 135 involving heroin, including 81 of those cases involved cocaine. The overdose trend in Milwaukee, cocaine has been the leading overdose drug when mixed with heroin and fentanyl, according to autopsies conducted by the MCMEO. The MCMEO found that cocaine when mixed with other drugs can result in toxic overdoses and could result in deaths.
In 2017, there were 149 overdose deaths related to cocaine.
The MCMEO says that autopsies in overdose cases have shown that heroin had been mixed with fentanyl and those addicted to drugs have been buying the mix drug without knowing that it can be deadly. Cocaine today could be contaminated with other drugs that can cause toxic reactions and even lead to an overdose death, according to the MCMEO. The MCMEO confirmed that there are still other suspected overdose cases pending autopsy reviews.
