Trump Not To Popular With Some Mexican Fiesta 2018 Festivalgoers Who Wore T-shirts Expressing Discontent

The recent anti-immigrant policies and the separation of families brought harsh criticism aimed at Trump during the three-day Mexican Fiesta 2018.

Milwaukee, WI - More than 95,000 people attended the three-day Mexican Fiesta 2018 over the weekend in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and some of them took the liberty to express their discontent with Trump and his policies including the separation of families by wearing t-shirts at the festival that actually said it all. One person, who is a Marine veteran wore a t-shirt and posted on his Facebook account that stated, "Fuck Trump" another man wearing a t-shirt, who apparently is a Navy veteran was photographed by a festivalgoer who also posted it on his Facebook account that shows the veteran wearing a t-shirt with a photo of Trump and said, "El Pendejo," which translates "Stupid." The illustration mimics the Mexican lotería game, which depicts images of persons, things, items and etc.
Mexican Fiesta is considered the largest Mexican music and a family cultural tradition venue event in the Midwest.
The Summerfest grounds operated by Milwaukee World Festival Inc. is considered a public forum where free speech and freedom of expression is still prevelent.
Case precedent, Satélite v. Mexican Fiesta (WHSF), in June 1992, Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge William D. Gardner ruled that the Summerfest grounds are a "public forum" where there is a First Amendment right to freedom of expression,  even when the grounds are occupied by an ethnic festival.
Gardner said, "City government created the grounds to be a place where the public could gather and experience the ethnic and cultural diversity of the community."
Also under Cohen v. California (1971), the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a conviction of a man wearing a jacket saying "Fuck the Draft", which he was cited for disturbing the peace and the four letter word was considered free speech.
The First Amendment, as applied through the Fourteenth, prohibits states from making the public display of a single four-letter expletive a criminal offense, without a more specific and compelling reason than a general tendency to disturb the peace. Court of Appeal of California reversed.

Milwaukee, WI - Angel Luis Santiago, 67, who was convicted in 1987 for 1st-degree murder for the November 4, 1985 homicide of Aurora Weier, 45, will be eligible for parole on May 1, 2022 (inmate #00176643). Santiago is currently incarcerated at the Racine Correctional Institute in Sturtevant, Wisconsin, according to the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.
Santiago who was sentenced to life in prison with five years extended incarceration in 2001 finally confessed to a reporter while being incarcerated at the Prairie Correctional Facility in Appleton, Minnesota that he fatally shot Weier with a rifle from across the street as she was walking with her 7-year-old son into a Latino community center known as the Enrichment Center that was later renamed the Aurora Weier Educational Center, an alternative high school for Latino youths at N. Richards and W. Center Streets in Milwaukee.
Santiago who was then the Director of the United Youth Federation apparently became distraught that Weier was an emerging Latina leader and was successful in getting funding for the center. Santiago had experienced deficit funding issues in his organization.
Weier was originally from Panama who saw a need for Latinos to get educated in the Holton Latino and Puerto Rican neighborhood.

Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office Will No Longer Honor ICE Detainers

ICE detainers will longer be honored by the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office, but ICE will be notified prior to a suspected undocumented immigrant release from jail.

By H. Nelson Goodson
Hispanic News Network U.S.A.

August 22, 2018

Milwaukee, WI - On Tuesday, the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) announced a new policy that the department will no longer accept or honor Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainers without an official court warrant signed by a judge. A federal court had ruled that ICE detainers are not legal binding, but that only a warrant signed by a judge can authorized the hold of a suspected undocumented immigrant who was processed by the sheriff's office for another violation. Once the inmate is scheduled for release and there is no basis to continue to hold the suspected undocumented immigrant, the inmate will be released, but ICE will be notified that the inmate would be released within 2 to 3 hours before the release process is completed, according to the MCSO. The MCSO notification to ICE would allow ICE to arrest the undocumented immigrant when released from the jail.
The MCSO policy change came after the ACLU requested for the department to stop honoring ICE detainers in early August.

Bay View, WI - On Sunday, Daniel L. Mangert, 36, was taken into custody for an alleged felony charge for child sexual assault, which charges are still pending, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office. Mangert was hospitalized and booked in the Milwaukee County jail on Monday.
A Milwaukee County Sheriff's deputy responded to an incident reported around 4:00 p.m. at the Humboldt Park Pavillion where the Beer Garden is located involving a 4-year-old boy who was allegedly molested by a man inside a bathroom stall. The 4-year-old boy apparently was allowed to go the bathroom by himself while his mother was attending one of her daughters who had been injured while playing at a nearby playground.
A male witness who offered to look for the child inside the bathroom while the mother waited outside discovered that another man was inside a bathroom stall with the boy. The second man who turned out to be Mangert told the mother that he was helping her son in the stall, but the mother suspected otherwise and Mangert fled in a bicycle from the park, the Bay View Compass reported.
Another person at the park identified Mangert as the man who fled the scene to a deputy. Also, the man who found Mangert in the bathroom stall with the boy chased him in his truck, according to the Bay View Compass.
When authorities located him, Mangert attempted to avoid arrest by jumping out of a building, sustaining injuries and was hospitalized.
In 2006, Mangert was convicted for felony bail jumping and in 2005, he was convicted for felony causing mental harm to a child, according to Milwaukee County court records.

Becher Street on August 12th without an ID has been identified as Nigel Ernst Hagen, 36, of Milwaukee. In 2018, the MCMEO reported that there have been 173 drug-related deaths, with 135 involving heroin, including 81 of those cases involved cocaine. The overdose trend in Milwaukee, cocaine has been the leading overdose drug when mixed with heroin and fentanyl, according to autopsies conducted by the MCMEO. The MCMEO found that cocaine when mixed with other drugs can result in toxic overdoses and could result in deaths.
In 2017, there were 149 overdose deaths related to cocaine.
The MCMEO says that autopsies in overdose cases have shown that heroin had been mixed with fentanyl and those addicted to drugs have been buying the mix drug without knowing that it can be deadly. Cocaine today could be contaminated with other drugs that can cause toxic reactions and even lead to an overdose death, according to the MCMEO. Bellingham, WA - On Sunday, at least 74 H2A farmers workers from Guatemala and Mexico remained on strike after George Sandhu, the owner of Crystal View Farms failed to pay salaries for 15 days earned by nearly 100 visa authorized farm workers, according Ramon Torres, President of Familias Unidas por la Justicia in Washington. Torres in a posted Facebook video says, that Sanhu has failed to pay the authorized farm workers for work done in the last month and that the workers had on received $100, since they arrived at the farm.
The farmer workers accused Sanhu of unfair labor practices, being aggressive and threatening workers with termination and deportation. Recently, eight of the farm workers were laid-off for complaining about their unfair working conditions, unpaid work and not being allowed to get transportation to the nearest town. The farm workers under the H2A work visas are not allowed to leave the farms without permission from the owner or suspervisor. The farmer workers stopped working until the eight workers that were laid-off and taken by ICE are returned to work.
In other words, they are treated like indentured servants with no federal regulations to protect them from labor abuse including unsafe working conditions and exploition by not getting paid for work done.
Torres attempted to talk to Sanhu when he arrived in a farm bus about the claims made by the farm workers, but he shut the bus window and left.
Under the Trump administration, H2A authorized farm workers are targeted for abuse and non-payment of wages earned and then laid-off, which deportation follows under the visa program without any recourse.
Within the last two years multiple H2A farmers have died on the fields of farms participating in the visa program.

Milwaukee, WI - On Tuesday, Earnell Lucas was elected as the Democratic nominee for Milwaukee County Sheriff in Milwaukee. Lucas will replace Acting Milwaukee County Sheriff Richard Schmidt in January.
Also, Marisabel Cabrera was elected as the Democratic nominee for the Wisconsin State Assembly 9th District. Cabrera is the Chairperson of the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission. Cabrera will replace incumbent Josh Zepnick (D) in the State Assembly.
Cabrera will be the second openly LGBTQ community Democrat member in the State Assembly and the first woman Democrat of Puerto Rican descent in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Democrat JoCasta Zamarripa from the State Assembly 8th District is of Mexican descent. Zamarripa is also a member of the LGBTQ community.

In other races:

• Tony Evers (D) will challenge incumbent Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker (R) in the November elections.

• Mandela Barnes was elected as the Democratic nominee Lt. Governor.

• Doug La Follette was elected the Democratic nominee for Secretary of State and will face Republican challenger Jay Schroeder in the November elections.

• Sarah Godlewski was elected the Democratic nominee for Wisconsin State Treasurer and will face Republican challenger Travis Hartwigg in the November elections.

Editor's note: In the Wisconsin Partisan Election result totals for the two major political parties indicate that the Democrats out voted the Republicans in the governor race. Totals combine in the Democratic choice for governor showed that 537,840 voted in the Primary Election compared to 456,007 votes cast by Republicans in the governor's Primary race. If the Democratic election momentum continues to bring out the vote for November 2018, Democrats could take the governorship by electing Evers and ousting Republican Governor Walker.
In the Wisconsin State legislature, the Republicans continue to be in controlled making Democrat legislators in both the State Assembly and Senate as lame ducks due the the Gerrymandering districts that were created giving Republicans the advantage to get elected.
Milwaukee County remains a Democratic stronghold.

Democrat Marisabel Cabrera, Candidate For State Assembly Indicated White Owned Media Is More Legitimate News Source Than Latino Media

Editorial:

Cabrera who is running for State Assembly in the 9th District seems to prefer White owned commercialized media than Latino independent media.

Hispanic News Network U.S.A.

August 13, 2018

Milwaukee, WI - On Sunday, Marisabel Cabrera who is a candidate for the State Assembly in the 9th District and the Chairperson of the Fire and Police Commission indicated in a Facebook (FB) post that the JSonline could be considered a more reliable news source than a Latino independent media. The JSonline is a commercialized news source.
Cabrera's concern was why wasn't Hispanic News Network U.S.A. (HNNUSA) publishing favorable articles about Earnell Lucas, a candidate for Milwaukee County Sheriff.
Apparently, Cabrera questioned why H. Nelson Goodson, who is a journalist for HNNUSA had posted multiple posts about Acting Milwaukee County Sheriff Richard Schmidt on his personal FB account. Goodson explained to Cabrera and others in the comment thread that he posted them because it was news worthy, that Schmidt as acting Sheriff had confirmed his stance on immigration policies, which won't implement the 287g ICE program and that he would serve and protect everyone despite having legal status in country or not. Cabrera is supporting Lucas for Sheriff.
Marisabel Cabrera wrote on Facebook: "H Nelson Goodson Perhaps your selective reporting of the news is one reason why you're not relied upon when folks make a statement to the media. There's no need to pay for an ad. Like I said, legitimate news outlets are reporting on this and other races and they report on all candidates involved in each race. What is your issue with Lucas?"
H. Nelson Goodson responded on FB: "Marisabel Cabrera, maybe I should write that Voces de la Frontera Action made false claims about immigration policy against acting Sheriff Schmidt in multiple videos in which Lucas is endorsed by them and Lucas seems to be complicit by not controlling VFLFA for using his name on the videos that included lies towards Schmidt to create panic in the Latino community. Now, that would be news, but I kept him out of it and now you guys are forcing the issue to be published.
VDLFA and Voces de la Frontera are known to fabricate false claims when convenient for them and using their non-profit e-mail account to send out political propaganda. Smh, well it figures, you prefer the JSonline as a legitimate commercialized source than Latino media."
The news preference for Cabrera was first initiated after Goodson posted: "Also Marisabel, when you released a letter to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel about former Milwaukee Police Chief Flynn intent to apply show me your papers policy, you didn't release it to the Latino media. But when I attempted numerous times and even left messages on your phone to also release it to the Hispanic media, you never responded to my request to get a copy. Why, do you prefer JSonline, a White media source over the Latino media?
That's not very transparent for a Police Commissioner to the Latino community."
Cabrera wanted for HNNUSA to write about Lucas.
Unfortunately, Cabrera attempted to indicate that HNNUSA wasn't a reliable Latino news source, but the JSonline is. Not to many Latinos read the JSonline and for Cabrera not to release the info sent to JSonline shows that she seems to lack transparency to the Latino community and she is running for the state Assembly and trying to gain the Hispanic vote in the 9th District. If elected, will she be transparent to the Latino community and to the Latino media?
Also, Cabrera posted in her FB account that Newly elected Milwaukee County Supervisor Sylvia Ortiz-Velez had endorsed her for the State Assembly, but HNNUSA has noticed that Cabrera herself failed to publicly endorsed Ortiz-Velez when she was a candidate for supervisor. Why?
Lastly, Goodson posted: "Marisabel Cabrera, I do wish you luck in the upcoming election, but sending that lit about Zepnick committing sexual assault might tilt the election in his favor. You made him look like a victim after he apologized and stopped drinking. Smh, just my opinion in the matter.
But, we will see what actually happens in election day."
Just in case Cabrera missed it, but she was on stage and present when Goodson was recognized and awarded a plaque of appreciation for news reporting at the Puerto Rican Family Festival (PRFF). The Puerto Rican community in Milwaukee and the PRFF believe that Goodson as a journalist, is a reliable and credible Hispanic news source in the community.
""¡Gracias!" Appreciation Award to Nelson Goodson in recognition of efforts to help provide food and supplies to our people in Puerto Rico. The people of Puerto Rico immeasurably appreciate your commitment and dedication to helping our island after the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria.
"On behalf of the Puerto Rican People in Wisconsin and Puerto Rico. We thank you.

Former Milwaukee County Supervisor Peggy West Pleaded Guilty To Felony Election Fraud

West under a plea agreement pleaded guilty to a felony charge for election fraud.

By H. Nelson Goodson
Hispanic News Network U.S.A.

August 8, 2018

Milwaukee, WI - On Wednesday, former Milwaukee County Supervisor Peggy Ann West, 47, entered a guilty plea for one felony count of election fraud, according to court records. West is scheduled for a sentencing hearing on September 26th. West is facing up to 3 years and 6 months in prison and up to $10,000 in fines, but under a plea agreement she could face less time in prison or probation.
According to the criminal complaint, West committed election fraud of certified nomination papers, stemming from forged nomination signatures. At least five people denied signing West's nomination papers and a property manager confirmed to police investigators that a former resident, Sonia Rivera had moved to Florida 4 years ago, but her name appeared in West's nomination papers. Another 16 people in the Milwaukee County Supervisor's 12th District also confirmed that they did sign West's nomination papers, but West didn't personally circulate the nomination papers as she certified that she did. Also, West's daughter, Elimiliana Lorenzo told police that her mother forged her name as a certified circulator in several nomination papers (pages 18-19) as well, according to the criminal complaint.
The criminal complaint states that on West's nomination page 16, the apartments listed for electors from 1 to 5 didn't exist at the building address and none of the electors listed from 6 to 10 lived at the address provided. In other words, West who signed and certified the nomination paper as the circulator allegedly fabricated the list of electors.
On West's nomination page 4, Jay Reinke told police that he partially circulated the sheet and got electors to sign from 1 to 6 and left 7 to 10 blank when he signed and certified the nomination paper as the circulator, but someone later managed to add electors from 7 to 10 without him knowing until police asked him about that page.

Racine, WI - The U.S. immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested three men in Racine. Kelly Gallaher on Tuesday posted on Facebook (FB) and tagged about 98 FB users that, "Last night 3 more men were taken by ICE. They are staying in the city and quite possibly getting targets from the Sheriff. We are putting together a march for tomorrow Aug. 8 at 3:30p.m. Meet at the Family Dollar parking lot across from Horlick HS. We will march down to Douglas Ave. because this is the area where the men were taken. It is also a large Hispanic community. Bring signs saying Keep Families Together, Get ICE out of Racine, Racine is a Welcoming City etc. Pass this message on so we have a large crowd to let ICE know we are watching what is happening."
Apparently, the Racine County Sheriff's Office is being outed as the possible whistle blower and might be working with ICE. But, community members continue to organize in an effort to inform County residents about ICE ongoing arrests and have organize a resistance in the area against the separation of families. None of the men have been identified by Gallaher.
Last month, a immigrant rights and community activist Ricardo Fierro, 39, who is undocumented was taken into custody by ICE in Racine and sparked a rally and multiple vigils in support of Fierro who was also the president of Wisconsin LULAC Council #347. A Stay of Deportation was filed with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement/Enforcement and Removal Operations Office in Chicago (ICE/ERO) seeking bond and temporary release for Fierro, who was taken into custody by ICE agents on July 24th at his residence. Fierro is being held at the Dodge County jail while being process for deportation.
Fierro lived with his fiancé before his arrest and has five U.S. born children of his own ages, 17, 14, 9, 5 and a 4-month-old and his fiancé has two children ages 16 and 17.
